2024-12-22 03:12:54 +0000 UTCHan's songs are very relatable for anyone whose felt 'other' or struggled to fit in, and because he tends not to gender stuff, they are great for queer relatability. The song is kind of a love song to himself, his past self (from Alien) and his current self. I love how old Han is inside and more withdrawn but current Han is outside and loud and colourful and wearing noticeable clothes and stuff. That story of healing is just so affecting. Felix's MV is so beautiful and like an emo version of a similar topic, but the beast is unable to see his true beauty without someone else to reflect it back to him. Felix said the song has some Little Prince vibes too. It seems to be very much about subjectivity, how people see a beast not a human, how the beast himself gets caught into the spell of seeing himself as a beast too, and love momentarily broke it but the story ends before he realises he is still loved, and he hasn't loved himself enough yet to break the curse alone. It's lowkey got sad queer anthem vibes tbh, the self-hatred/rejection from society, finding healing through love but then being attacked by prejudiced people (Gaston) and just craving someone to see his true self. I do relate on the straight/queer reading thing though, I hear female pronouns in a male song and I just end up thinking of it as 'ah, for the lesbians' 😅 a lot.
