LIVE Kickstarter 2020 Announcement STREAM happening soon!

The time is finally here! We're finalizing the details on this year's slate of RiffTrax Live events, and we're excited to let you, dear Traxians, be the first to know about them with this special perk.

Join Mike, Kevin and Bill LIVE-live from the RiffTrax Studio in Minnesota, right here, on Wednesday, February 19th at Noon Pacific (that's 1 pm Mountain/2 pm Central/3pm Eastern). They'll reveal the titles for this year's live shows AND answer your questions in a Q&A, before we launch this year's campaign.

Have a question for the guys? Leave it in the comments below, and they may answer it during the livestream.

We'll keep this post pinned so that you can easily come back to it next week, and we'll also update the post to remind you the morning of so you don't miss out. Thanks for being a Patron!

EDIT February 19th: The stream is about to start. See you there!

EDIT for titles!

Back this year's campaign: RiffTrax Live 2020: HOBGOBLINS and AMITYVILLE - THE EVIL ESCAPES!

Traxians (that's you, Patreon subscribers) who also back the campaign at $50 or higher, and who are active subscribers when the campaign closes, will receive an exclusive Bill Corbett Challenge Coin! We'll post the design in a future post here on Patreon.

LIVE Kickstarter 2020 Announcement STREAM happening soon!

You forced me to look up Rula Lenska on Wikipedia, thereby using up precious Wiki juice. I’m in the know now, so I guess it was worth it.

Hey Jeff, sorry, I definitely got your meaning! Hence my comment about "a gap in the timing of the announcement and launch" being a good idea. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I also wanted to expand upon our original intentions with the timing of things - e.g., launching the Kickstarter during the live stream. In hindsight I can see how we inadvertently added complication on the side of people wanting to pledge. I think having us plan the announcement for earlier in the day, or even further in advance of, the actual launch of the campaign could have sufficed here. I like your idea of including the time zones too - that's a nice touch, and feels like a good fit with how we generally talk about the live show times as well. Long way of saying: I agree, we could have benefited from announcing the launch date, and NOT launching during the stream itself. I think our main goal was to just kick things off in a big way, but obviously we fell short a bit, and I apologize for that. We'll definitely try to do better next time!

Erik, Thanks for the response. Not to beat a dead horse, but I’m not sure you take my meaning. My issue isn’t that the Kickstarter and Patreon announcement weren’t properly synced but rather they were too closely synced. It was actually to a viewer’s detriment to watch the Patreon “announcement” because, by the time it was done, most of the high-level goodies were gone or mostly gone. My suggestion is to do the Patreon livecast where you announce the movie titles and the start of the Kickstarter. “Hey, Patreon subscribers! This year we’re doing Hobgoblins and Amityville 4. The Kickstarter goes live this Friday at 7PM Pacific Time. That’s 8 Mountain, 9 Central and 10 Eastern.” That way folks who have jobs that don’t let them watch live can log in to Patreon that night, watch the recorded message to get the info, and plan for the impending Kickstarter launch. That way there’s value to the Patreon subscribers and the start of the Kickstarter is much fairer game. Yes, the information will be all over the forums within seconds of being announced but it’s still not on Kickstarter before it’s even been announced by MKB, and folks who can’t break away from their jobs in the middle of a Wednesday aren’t completely out of luck.

Hey Jeff, Erik here. These are fair points, and of course this was somewhat new for us. There's always room for us to improve and learn from our mistakes, and I'm sorry that we didn't nail it this time. We did try to time it so that the campaign went live within a few seconds of the button being pushed in the stream (though there was a bit of lag depending on where in the country you were viewing) and as you noticed, those VIP slots got snapped up pretty fast. As far as having some kind of gap in the timing of the announcement and the launch of the campaign, that's not a bad idea. We thought that actually launching it (with a "push the button" moment and everything) would have been fun and different, but maybe we didn't take into consideration some of the inherent issues of stream-watching versus campaign-backing. That being said, we're taking all this feedback into consideration and will learn from this for future campaigns/announcements. So thanks for sharing yours!

RiffTrax

I have to say I’m a little disappointed with the rollout. Not only was it in the middle of the afternoon (fortunately I was off that day to watch) but the “announcement” lagged behind the Kickstarter. By the time Bill sang the Hobgoblin song, the titles were on Kickstarter and over half the VIP slots were gone. Why not announce on Patreon the movies and the date/time in the next few days the KS will go live, rather than both simultaneously? That way the KS can launch at a more reasonable time and Traxians actually get advance info.

We just need a contact at the United Juice Companies of America. Got any leads?

RiffTrax

Hi Fred and Ben, sorry for the trouble. Apologies if you didn't see this post when it went up originally - I posted it a week ago (Feb 12) to try and give Patreon subscribers a full week of advance notice. (We launched the campaign during the live stream.) I had hoped that 7 days of warning would have been enough, and I'm sorry that we weren't able to make it more convenient for you to snag a VIP slot. I'll see what more we can do next time!

RiffTrax

I've asked before: could you give fans here a longer lead in - a full day or 2 - to announce shows so we have a better chance to grab those expensive goody bags? I'm in Japan and when I wake up on the first day, the meet and greets are gone. My 5 year old daughter would LOVE to meet Mike in person. But by the time I know about the new kickstart, all those prizes are gone. :(

Fred and Ben

Please do a Limited Edition "Hobo Nickel" variation of the coins.....of course, the proper follow-up would be a Mike-designed "underpants" heads/tails coin ......

Acefink

I'm glad I was able to help!

RiffTrax

Oh, Thank God! Bill challenge coin. I'll have a complete set!

Vince Averello

Thanks Erik!

My name is Eric and I had no idea I was in control the whole time.

Great, now I want RiffTrax juice! lol

Now you have to do the Cobra MP3 riff as a kickstarter reward, sounds awesome.
