Y'all may recall having seen her before, as she portrayed Mona Lisa Vito, the stylish, sharp-witted fiancée of Vincent LaGuardia Gambini (Joe Pesci) in the 1992 movie 𝘔𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯 𝘝𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘺. As an expert mechanic and hairdresser, her unexpected yet crucial/critical/vital/pivotal testimony, which illustrated her vast automotive knowledge, assisted in Vinny "winning" the trial for his clients: two "yutes" (youths) who were wrongfully accused, including his young cousin. Tomei's tremendous, terrific and incredibly iconic performance earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in the aforementioned film. Similarly, Mickey Rourke's work in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘳 got him nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Actor, albeit he didn't wind up winnin' said Oscar.
