All Might Commission Sign

So I'm now 2 conventions deep into this new post-COVID-but-not-really world and it has been a mixed bag to say the least. That's a whole rant in and of itself, but for now I'll just say that I've decided to use the handful of cons that I have in the back half of 2021 as a time to really think about how I do shows and what things I'd like to change or improve. For instance, I've decided to retire probably about 2/3 of my old prints and focus on newer stuff. I'm also going to try only doing take-home commissions. 

One major thing I'm thinking about at the moment is updating my table set-up and signs. See, I believe people have built up a bit of a subconscious ad-blocker in their minds, and frankly my price list and commission signs aren't very eye catching to begin with. At the time I made them, I was going for simplicity and clarity, the kind of sign you can read and understand from a distance, but if my years working in retail have taught me nothing else, it's taught me that people are surprisingly oblivious to stuff like that. (I still have the "Please check out in Electronics" sign from my TRU days that absolutely no one read.) So the approach I've decided to try now is to (hopefully) draw people in and trick them into looking directly at it. I'm doing this by adding art to the signs, in theory making them something worthy of looking at in and of themselves. Ideally, I'd like people to be half-way though looking at a "print" before they even realize that it's actually my commission info.

At last, that brings us to the above image of All Might from My Hero Academia. It's the first promo image I've created for this project and I plan on using it for my commission info. I wasn't totally sure I'd be able to pull off the concept of blending the different stages of drawing into one image, but I ended up VERY happy with how it turned out. I even found myself wondering if it would be worth it to turn it into a print on it's own, which I suppose is exactly what I was going for. lol Fingers cross he helps me make my future shows Plus Ultra!
