HUN Chapter 93: Wyatt's Plea for Help

The fireplace was burning brightly, and the family was preparing to enjoy a hearty dinner.

The old satellite phone in the farmhouse living room suddenly rang shrilly, breaking the cheerful laughter that filled the house.

Robert walked over to answer the phone. After he said "Hello," his expression gradually became grave.

The call was from his eldest son Wyatt, whose voice came through the electrical current, sounding deep and filled with suppressed anger.

"Dad, those damn bastards are back!"

"When I counted the cattle this morning, the numbers didn't match up. In the northern valley of the ranch, I found three more calf carcasses!"

"Within a week, I've already lost seven of my best Angus calves!"

Robert asked in a deep voice, "Same as before? Only attacking calves?"

"Exactly!"

There was a hint of helplessness in Wyatt's voice.

"All the wounds are on the throat, they only ate a small portion of the organs, purely killing for sport. These bastards are provoking me!"

"The snare traps I set were directly bypassed, the bear traps I buried were dug up by them, the soil turned upside down, as if they're mocking me!"

"Is their alpha still the same one?"

"It's him! Yesterday I observed through binoculars, the leader is still that massive black alpha wolf."

"Much larger than ordinary gray wolves, I absolutely couldn't mistake it! It's very experienced, and the other wolves absolutely obey its commands."

"Without taking it down, my cattle won't have peace this winter! Dad, I need my brothers' help. We must completely eliminate this menace!"

Robert hung up the phone and informed the other sons present, as well as Lin Yu'an, about Wyatt's predicament.

"Wyatt's in trouble."

Robert's voice was deep and serious, and the atmosphere at the dinner table instantly became tense.

This big family's leader usually had a kind face, but when he needed to step forward, he seemed like a different person, filled with an imposing presence that commanded respect without anger.

"Clay, Bo, tomorrow morning, you guys plus Hermann, bring equipment and go to Wyatt's farm."

"Remember, your target is the alpha wolf! Without taking down the alpha, this won't end!"

"No problem, Dad!"

The three brothers immediately put down their knives and forks, the comfort in their eyes replaced by a focus and fierceness that belonged to hunters.

Robert's sharp gaze swept over his three sons and finally rested on Lin Yu'an.

"But before you all get hot-headed, listen carefully."

He tapped the oak dining table with his finger, making dull sounds.

"This is not revenge. According to Montana law, if we go hunting those wolves now, it's illegal poaching. The consequences are prison, heavy fines, and revocation of hunting licenses."

Garrett said defiantly, "Dad! They killed Wyatt's cattle! Are we just supposed to wait around?"

Robert explained, "I understand your anger, but we must follow the rules."

"I'll contact FWP (Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks) and USDA Wildlife Services for Wyatt. They'll send people to investigate."

"If it's confirmed that wolves did it, Wyatt can apply for compensation from the 'Livestock Loss Board.'"

"But you know, that money might take months, and if this wolf pack is determined to be repeat offenders, FWP might authorize us with a time-limited hunting permit."

"But all of this is too slow! By the time the officials complete their procedures, Wyatt's herd might have no calves left!"

He shifted his tone, a glint of shrewdness flashing in his eyes, "But when the law closes one door, it also leaves a window open."

"Montana's 'Property Defense Rights' law states that if a rancher or his employee, on their own land, personally witnesses wolves chasing or killing their livestock, they have the right to shoot immediately."

Robert looked at everyone, "Do you all understand? We can't go 'hunting,' but we can go 'protecting.'"

"The wolf pack has tasted blood, they'll definitely come back! Your mission is to be there at that instant when they launch an attack, when you have legal authority to fire."

"Quickly and precisely eliminate the threat! Do you all understand?"

"Understood, Dad."

"Good, be careful not to get hurt."

After dinner, they began discussing the equipment and ammunition each needed to prepare.

"Bo, I plan to bring my Remington 700, equipped with that night vision scope with ballistic calculation function, for long-distance sniping. What do you think?"

"Sounds good, Garrett. Then I'll bring the AR-10, loaded with a drum magazine, plenty of firepower to handle emergencies. How about you, Clay?"

"You guys have already chosen, so I'll stick with my pump-action shotgun, loaded with large deer slugs, just in case any wolves charge close."

Then the three men looked at Lin Yu'an in unison, seemingly waiting for his input.

Lin Yu'an, who had been silent, calmly spoke, "This time I brought the large-caliber Winchester M70, so I'll handle the ambush while maintaining a quiet environment."

"We'll also need a high-performance camera drone to ensure we have indisputable video evidence proving we only fired when the wolf pack was 'actively attacking.'"

Robert looked at this steady future son-in-law. He couldn't see even a trace of bravado in the other's eyes, only pure confidence.

He slowly nodded, "You all need to be careful and not get hurt. Let those damn wolves taste the power of the McKinley family!"

The next day at four in the morning, while it was still dark, the entire farm was already brightly lit.

In the garage, the three brothers Garrett, Bo, and Clay were loading equipment onto their Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram pickups.

Their respective firearms had been carefully cleaned and oiled, and ammunition, thermal imaging devices, GPS, high-power radios, and first aid kits were all complete.

Lin Yu'an was on the other side, quietly making his own preparations.

He changed into an Arc'teryx shell jacket and down jacket two-in-one outfit.

He took the Winchester M70 rifle from the gun case in the car, along with the action camera and drone he would use for filming.

Then he sat at a workbench and took out professional gun maintenance tools to begin final adjustments.

He used a long, thin cleaning rod with solvent-soaked patches to carefully clean the inside of the barrel, as well as the component structures, removing any possible debris and oil residue.

Finally, he evenly wiped down the gun body. The classic walnut stock and deep blue blued barrel gleamed attractively under the lights.

After completing the maintenance, he took out a box of .300 WMG cartridges from a hard ammunition case and began loading them.

He skillfully and steadily pressed the golden cartridges one by one into the magazine.

He worked the bolt, and the mechanism made that "click" sound that all normal men are obsessed with, one of two types of sounds.

As for the other most intoxicating sound, those who know, know.

At five in the morning, a convoy of three heavy-duty pickups, facing the bone-chilling cold wind, departed Robert's frontier farm and sped along the snowy highway toward Wyatt's farm.

After arriving at Wyatt's farm, everyone surveyed the scene.

In the snow, the mangled remains of the eaten calves had frozen hard. The surrounding snow was trampled into chaos, and the air still carried a faint scent of blood.

The brothers-in-law were all angrily cursing, while Lin Yu'an opened his camera and crouched down to carefully examine the bite marks on the calves' throats.

"The wound edges are very clean, without excessive tearing marks. One fatal blow, indicating it's very experienced and extremely confident in itself."

He stood up and looked at the messy footprints in the snow, using his hand to measure the paw print sizes and judging approximate weight based on the pressure.

"This alpha male wolf weighs at least 60 kilograms or more, very strong."

He pointed to the distribution of tracks around the area and drew a simple diagram in the snow with a tree branch.

"Look, these two sets of shallower prints are on the flanks. They're responsible for driving and harassing the adult cattle."

"While the alpha and another adult wolf attacked the isolated calf directly from the front. Very clear tactics."

This series of extremely professional analysis from Lin Yu'an made all the brothers-in-law set aside their last trace of underestimation.

They began to truly regard him as a professional expert hunter skilled in tracking and analysis.
