SUP Chapter 70: Endless Shortcuts
Added 2025-08-07 08:05:42 +0000 UTCThe crisp system notification sound in his mind made Ian slightly dazed.
He hadn't expected the process of awakening a dormant profession to be so smooth. He originally thought he would need to make The Boys a huge hit before the dormant Homelander profession in the system could be unlocked.
Who could have thought?
Just the flattery from two scientists had allowed Ian to get what he wanted. It seemed that even as an [Independent NPC], Ian still couldn't get the script where people would bow down upon first meeting.
"There's an inexplicably faint melancholy."
Ian glanced at his system panel.
[You have obtained the corrected profession, Savage Tyrant]
This was the profession name that emerged after the dormant profession brought by Homelander was revived. Ian didn't immediately check it, but stared thoughtfully at the two scientists in front of him who were still reading comics.
Don't look down on these two ordinary people, but they were also protagonists in their own stories. Perhaps in the process of reviving dormant professions, the remembrance from such people was more meaningful than that of ordinary NPCs?
Ian still couldn't quite figure it out. He just thought of his deskmate, who had also read this comic and surely contributed, so he decided the two oranges in his pocket should still be saved for the little delinquent girl.
"Although I don't like your portrayal that vilifies Superman's image, seeing someone who can notice the unreasonable aspects of Superman's airplane rescue like me makes me very happy."
"Oh, it seems I'm also a very contradictory person. Regardless, your work is really good, and I'd be very happy to provide you with more of my views on exactly how Superman violates physics."
Sheldon's eyes sparkled with anticipation, eager to try. "So, if I can do it for free, when do you decide to hire us as your comic assistants?"
He looked like he really wanted to find the unscientific aspects of biological force fields.
"Free? That violates labor law!"
Ian didn't need comic assistance.
He only needed mature scientist workhorses.
"Let me write the contract, please, I beg you. I really understand capitalists. I guarantee all eight thousand clauses in the contract can be in your favor to ruthlessly exploit us!" Sheldon rubbed his hands together with a pleading expression, his whole person seeming to transform into Ian's considerate little parasite.
That was just his personality.
The thing he loved most in this life was writing contracts.
He didn't need to benefit himself.
But he definitely needed to get the chance to write contracts. Genius thinking was always so hard to understand. Leonard, Sheldon's best friend, was simply speechless about this.
"Sheldon, he wants to hire us for our scientific intelligence, not as comic assistants..." He was still relatively normal in his thinking, holding his forehead and quietly reminding his friend.
"Oh, is that so? Then I can write two contracts! Yay! That's great!" Sheldon obviously had a different way of thinking, becoming as happy as a child.
"Changing jobs is something we must consider carefully. After all, I have a chance to become a tenured university professor." Leonard's thinking was that of a normal person.
However, his somewhat thoughtful words only earned him a mocking comment from his friend.
"Tenured professor? That's just what you think you can achieve... Social skills, Leonard, you don't understand social skills. If you want to climb up in university, you can't not understand this."
"If you could be like me and give our principal a Rich Women's Directory right after his divorce, you might have just a tiny bit of a chance."
He seriously "taught" Leonard.
"..."
Leonard showed a polite fake smile.
"All the phone numbers in your directory were made up by yourself."
He reminded him.
Sheldon wasn't flustered at all, instead showing a matter-of-fact expression. "Of course, the gift I gave to the principal was a lesson not to believe in rich women scams."
"As gratitude, I believe he'll give me a private office next year." Sheldon was confident, as if he had thoroughly grasped social skills.
"..."
Leonard was utterly helpless.
Ian, however, felt he had learned something. He believed he could keep up with Dr. Sheldon's thinking, which, rounded up, was equivalent to him also having Nobel Prize potential.
"Of course you can consider it carefully. This is indeed a major life event." Ian nodded understandingly, knowing what gradual progress meant.
The fourteen-year-old teenager didn't expect to fool others with just a few words. He clearly knew that as an [Independent NPC], he definitely couldn't get the power fantasy script where people would submit upon first meeting.
The road to survival in DC was still long and arduous.
"Could you give me your contact information first?" Ian's request wasn't refused. Leonard was stunned for a moment, then quickly pulled out a piece of paper and wrote down their contact information.
"Perhaps we could first discuss your father's company projects? Of course, if we could receive a formal invitation from Wayne Enterprises, I think both Sheldon and I could convince our parents..."
Leonard was still hesitating.
However, when he looked up, he found Ian had already disappeared.
"Where did he go?"
Leonard was quite surprised.
"Huh, he ran really fast."
Sheldon, who had already started writing a contract on his phone, only realized this belatedly.
"He was so enthusiastic just now... what a strange person." Sheldon still didn't stop editing the contract. Whether it would be useful or not didn't affect that this was his hobby.
"Considering he's an excellent comic artist, I can actually understand. Look, I've become much more understanding." He seemed to have discovered something worth being happy about.
Leonard found this hard to comment on, so he simply changed the subject.
"Do you think we might really receive an invitation from Wayne Enterprises?"
He was still thinking about the olive branch thrown by a child. Perhaps he wasn't that normal either. The two ultimately didn't enter the gym and naturally walked toward home.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Ian had already impatiently found a quiet corner and called up his system panel to check the newly unlocked corrected profession.
[Savage Tyrant: In every battle, the Savage Tyrant is the most dazzling presence, able to crush all enemies in their path with superior physique.]
Another pure brute force profession.
Ian had predicted this, so he directly chose to confirm the job change. Just as he had figured out from the system rules before, he could indeed have more than one extraordinary profession.
"There isn't even a prerequisite quest?"
Ian certainly had his misjudgments too.
He had underestimated the system's love for him.
[Job Change Quest: Gain sufficient public attention and support (0/100000)]
This was the job change quest for the new profession. It seemed neither difficult nor simple.
Ian did have a budding [Superhero] account, but getting enough attention with that "account" wasn't something that could be accomplished in a short time.
Of course, there were shortcuts to take.
"Super Brain! Activate!"
The more shortcuts a person takes, the better they naturally become at finding shortcuts. So Ian only thought briefly before coming up with a solution using his excellent wisdom.
Slowly working hard to accumulate popularity and support?
Ian didn't want to become Metropolis's Xiangzi.
Precisely because of this.
"Hello."
Ian, wearing three layers of stockings on his head and holding unmarked cash, walked into a shop specializing in cosplay costumes. This shop mostly did business with people with special X fetishes.
However, today it welcomed a special customer.
"You... what do you want to do!" The shop owner, who was also the clerk, immediately went into stress mode upon seeing Ian enter his shop, pulling out a shotgun aimed at Ian.
He obviously thought a robber had come.
"Please give me a set of Batman's battle suit."
Ian ignored the other party's great equalizer, deliberately lowering his voice to make it breathy, while politely handing over a stack of bills.
Yes.
This was Ian's wisdom guidance.
Everyone was a billionaire. Although he was only a future billionaire, if Bruce Wayne could be Batman, why couldn't Ian Kent be one too?
The sky had already darkened.
It was time for the Dark Knight to emerge.
Getting attention and support, that's all.
The system didn't prohibit Ian from stealing someone else's account.
