Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2! Episode 2 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Huzzah second comment! I talk forever in videos, so that is fine! I really LOVE THotS in this! I’d love to see them more, honestly! It’s wild there’s been callbacks to them from Season 1! The little microexpressions in this series add soooo much to the storytelling of the series and I adore it! Like that with the Hero’s eyes! Also, him battling EIGHT of the toughest demons all at once?! INSANE. Especially knowing he was going to die at the time! And yeah, did he influence her choosing to join - it’s WILD to think that could have been the case! I am curious how long she waited to tell Himmel about the Hero? That’s interesting to think about… Evan Call did such a good job with the music! And yesss, Episode 3 is SO good – I’m enjoying the season so much so far! Thank you for the comment!

See? You’re prophetic! Honestly, the concept of a demon that doesn’t use magic but carries those crystals on a necklace is VERY scary! Let’s not let the velociraptors get machine guns, eh? Aww, I almost forgot about the locket – that would have been good; maybe she keeps that EXTRA secure somewhere or also doesn’t want to be reminded of them being gone. Hahaha, Eisen is just so great as a character – Frieren may not have been swooning, but Heiter could be a different story! 😛I agree on the level of vanity – Frieren probably would have found the Hero and Himmel to be insufferable if allowed to be in the same space together! XD Still, thank you for the comment!! Good food for thought in this second episode!

Ahhh, that is good to know about the hiatus -- thank you for clarifying that! And good luck with the shoveling!! (even though this is super late in reply)!

I really enjoyed this episode as well! It’s wild that Wirbel is in his mid-30’s! Dude! Leave Stark alone! XD And yes, I did deduce that there’s only one of the Seven Sages left in the discussion. 🙂I just thought that the Seven Sages had Schlat as one of them, so thanks for that clarification! I seriously could watch Himmel all day in his own series and could watch the Hero of the South in his own series as well! Thank you for the comment!

Okay, my second comment, it took longer than I thought. The Hero of the South is such a great character and I, like you, wish we could have seen more of him then 8 minutes this episode. I want to mention a few points here about him: - The Hero of the South is briefly mentioned in season 1, early on. Something like, they are talking about how he, humanity's strongest hero, failed before Himmel and his party formed and went north. It was brief, but there. - After Frieren says "You act like you already knew (paraphrased", I noticed his eyes went to side briefly then focuses back on her and he then says that he can tell her and she will never mention it to anyone. I kind of think this the eye shift was him consulting his ability and actually "seeing" that she would not tell anyone. - Like you said, the Hero of the South asking her to join him and then telling her a young hero would come and ask her and than she would join him was a crucial thing. I asked myself, "Would she have joined Himmel if he did not tell her that?" and that led me to ask "Did he know that he had to ask Frieren first and that would cause Frieren to join Himmel?" It is interesting to think about. - Someone else mentioned, but the Hero of the South faced the 8 most powerful demons under the demon king and killed three sages and the confident all by himself. that is pretty impressive to kill4 when that out numbered. - Lastly , he is very courageous to face his death knowing it ahead of time. Because he knows, if Schlatt and the seven sages were not countered before Himmel, would Himmel's party even made it to the Demon King. Also, the scene where she tell him what he said, I wonder if it was later in their journey rather that early. Did she save it for when Himmel needed a push ? it would be neat to know when she told him in their journey. The second part of the episode was not quite as captivating for me, but I really enjoyed your thoughts there too. I pretty much agreed with your analysis of it so not a lot to add, sorry lol. As a last note, the soundtrack in this episode was as awesome as always. Evan call is great with composing music that tugs at the emotions. I am looking forward to episode 3 and will try to post once and much quicker. Season 2 is not disappointing, it is only reinforcing how great this series is so far through two episodes.

Thank you! That helps explain that -- I was assuming he was the Confidant AND Seven Sages, so that was on me! I appreciate the comment!

I think that the second half where Frieren explains that demons have a lot of pride and it's almost natural instinct for them to boast of their power also would fit in to why Schlact if he had the same power would not care if he was going to his death he would want to out of pride face the hero which creates a neat contrast to the hero who is not going out of pride but to pass the baton to Himmel and make it easier for him to face the demon king.

What a great episode. Two things I wanted to clarify is one is connected to last episode Wirbel when he says he just left his 20s is exaggerating he is actually 33 or 34 and the next thing is that two of the seven sages/demons were defeated by the hero party three by the Hero of the South and Aura was one of the two that fled which means that only one of the Seven sages remain. It was mentioned already that Schlact is not one of the seven. I already want a whole spinoff series on Himmel and now why not add this Hero of the south that we just get for half an episode and that's it for now like show stop giving me characters I want to see more of and then tell me they're dead.

A first, brief comment about the Hiatus of the creators. I did some research when I first heard about it awhile back. This is not the first time they have taken an indefinite hiatus. It has happened at least twice before. So, at least for now, I do not think it is something to be overly concerned about with regards to the series. Second comment will be coming later on this epsiode and the actual rest of the reaction! (For now it's a shoveling I will go!!)

Schlacht is not one of the seven sages as far as I can tell. They say in the episode he was a confidant of the demon king and that he AND the seven sages jumped The Hero of the South (that is why you see 8 in the flashback). During the fight the hero kills 3 of the seven THEN he and Schlacht kill each other.

Of course the very next episode after i say we've never seen a demon without magic we get the Sword Demon that seemingly doesn't use any at all. :P Although i guess my point still stand, that demon could have been a fair bit more trouble if it had been equipped with a crystal necklace or something making it so that it couldn't be directly targeted by magic. I wish we would also have seen Fern with that locket that had pictures of her parents among the trinkets last episode, would be sad if she lost that one somehow since she was a small child. Ever since we heard Eisen mention last season that the "Hero of the South" had been defeated i wondered if we would ever see him. And with the usually Frieren flair we do, just for half an episode and then he is gone, and as much a hero as Himmel... just with a lesser ability to swoon old lonely elves. And apparently one requisite for being a hero in this world is some level of vanity, because one doesn't walk through life with that fit and that mustache without fussing for some time in front of the mirror each morning before going out performing ones heroic deeds, something i imagine Himmel did too.

i'm anime only, so this is just my speculation: seeing as both the southern hero and the sage demon each had perfect deterministic future sight (as told by the puppeteer and the southern hero), it feels poetic and scientifically symmetrical that they are destined to kill each other, preserving a balance of OP story breaking power. It's almost as if the story itself had to fight back.
