I REALLY love this segment as well! There is so much to take note of, yes! “HISOKA AND HIS GOOD FRIEND PINBOY” the historians will say. XD I do love their characters so much, as reprehensible as they both clearly are! That is also an adorable observation about Killua - he’s been that way since Day 1 with the skateboard kick flip! Killua just wants to be loved…*tears up* More on that later with where I’ve been recording…*sips tea* Ahhh, thank you for that note about the pronouns with the sniper woman! That actually helps out a lot – thank you for the notation on that! I appreciate it! And for the comment!

2026-02-03 20:31:00 +0000 UTCThis is easily my favorite segment of the Hunter Exam. Also, IMO maybe one of the best "shonen test phases" out there. Just lots of cool moments and interesting dynamics. Hisoka and his good friend pinboy come across as both totally insane and oddly human here. It is a very Togashi touch to make these reprehensible weirdos feel so fleshed out with their different moral codes and odd quirks. Also, this is kind of a running theme, but I find it so cute that Killua is both genuinely very cool but also obviously constantly trying to act cool for Gon. You can just feel the tryhard energy dripping off of him lol. As an aside, the super minor character sniper contestant is actually supposed to be a woman. The subs got her pronouns wrong. I think the English manga volumes might also be wrong but I'd have to double check. There are a few notable translation errors in the series. Way more so in the older volumes of the manga actually. The anime clears a lot of them up, but there are some that carry over into the subs and sometimes the dub too. I assume because they reference the English manga volumes.
