Chihayafuru Season 2: Episode 14 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

I loved this episode! Kana and Tsutomu SLAYED! I just love that they helped pick up the slack from Chihaya and Nishida! And I definitely agree that Sumire and Tsukuba were inspired! And it’s good to have someone who is not normally considered “the pro” to inspire them! That’s such a great point about Tsukuba as well! I think it’s the biggest insult to Hokuo that SUDO wasn’t even watching them. Oof. And yes, Chihaya’s infectious love of Karuta is so inspiring, isn’t it? I love it as well! The connection to between Shinobu and Taichi makes me want them to meet so badly! Yesss, I want Taichi to get more back to these little moments that he was doing for Chihaya in season 1, so I’m glad he’s getting back to them! Less overthinking, Taichi! And yeah, Arata thinking of Taichi first hahaha – I WISH that Taichi knew Arata considered him as important! And yessss, I agree 100% with you on that front! I agree – I really like Nationals this time around! It DOES feel like a proper arc and a proper tournament, whereas season 1 was more about the character development to get ready for season 2, at least that’s how I felt! Thank you for the comment!

Gosh, this episode made me happy. Seeing Kana winning her match with all the poise and elegance that she possesses was really cool; especially because Tsukuba had so little faith in her. In her and Tsutomu, really, who are the two that save Misusawa to win and pass to the finals (I don't mention Taichi here because he was expected to win, but Kana and Tsutomu were more surprises, at least to Tsukuba and Sumire). And I like that in the end, both Sumire and Tsukuba seemed to be very inspired, not by Chihaya and Taichi or Nishida, who they already respect and see as great players, but by Tsutomu and Kana, who they sometimes doubt. One moment that I really liked, is how right at the end of the episode Tsukuba, for the first time ever, goes through the proper channels to ask to be the one playing the next match, and to replace Kana with him. Because, for the first time, it isn't about his ego or seeming cool to his little brothers, but about what's best for the team and how he realizes that Kana can't play another intense match and needs to rest. It's an awesome little character moment for him, one that I truly appreciated. Gosh, Sudo not realizing that Hokuo had lost until the very end, after Sumire points it out, because he was so focused on Chihaya's match; only for him to still throw intense shade to Hokuo, and being really disappointed that they lost is hilarious. I love how everyone that plays against Chihaya ends up being inspired to love Karuta more and invest more time and passion into it. It's like just as she is absorbing everything from her opponents to become better and better, she is also leaving behind some of her intense love for the game for everyone else to adopt and soak in as well. Yes! The moment I saw Shinobu reciting the cards that she has already comitted to memory I could only think about Taichi as well! Lol, while watching the episode, I was unable to stop thinking about how Taichi is finally doing something for Chihaya again. He stops her from immediately faceplanting and sleeping after her intense match against Megumu, because it isn't the time for it yet, but also because they have to support Tsutomu with their attention. And then he stops her from hurting her hands, so important in Karuta, by physically grabbing them and opening them for her. It's really the small things that I think season 1 Taichi did all the time, before he started to overthink everything too much. And it's the kind of little things that really seem to dazzle Chihaya every time they happen; more than words, those little actions seem to be what speaks loduer to her. Arata thinking about Taichi first, and then Chihaya, is something that didn't escape my notice either xD Getting the shipping goggles off, I just wish that Taichi knew that Arata considers him as someone important, precious to him at the same level that he appreciates Chihaya because maybe that way he would be a little less conflicted on his own feelings towards Arata, as he seems to always be swaying between his jealousy over Chihaya, and his love for his childhood friend. i do have to say, I appreciate that this time around we spent more time on the games than we did on season 1. It has felt like a proper tournament arc, and not just as the sprint that season 1 made it feel.

This was a great match and oh Nishida bless his heart but yeah he did lose miserably this match. Forget Taichi for a moment mangaka give Nishida a win because he has been struggling since that Hokuo match. My goal for Nishida for the end of season 3 or this season is for him to overcome his weaknesses and get a win against all odds. I think your point of Nishida needing to be more aggressive summarizes it pretty well. In both games against Hokuo and Akashi the moment something throws him off he just spirals to his defeat and I need him when he's having a moment to lock in and go for it. I love Yuu and Megumu's rivalry and even though it sucks that Chihaya lost the back and forth was pretty good. Just to note that Megumu is actually a second year like Chihaya which is why she says she thought she would be done with playing as a team when she could no longer do so after third year but her promise to them is fulfilled that she would play until she actually felt frustrated for losing. Tsutomuuuu is my boy and if you told me that the Tsutomu of season 1 would be like this in season 2 Id believe you but at the same time I would need to see it. We got to see Tsutomu took two cards from his opponent using his data and it was so satisfying to see him step up and take it for the team. Im glad Sumire saw that so she can inherit that confidence as well as a karuta player. Truer words have never been spoken that if Taichi could just embrace his freakiness like Shinobu has he would be a problem in a good way. I think Shinobu's story has some interesting similarities and differences to Taichi - she was told that she needed to learn a skill in order to belong with her grandmother similarly to Taichi being pressured to learn different skills or play different sports Shinobu however found an aspect of karuta that drew her to it which Taichi didnt but both of their moms find karuta pointless because in her flashback Shinobu's mom scolded her saying that she needed to find something that was useful other than karuta or else she would be kicked out. I think the key difference is that Taichi was told he has to win vs Shinobu wanting for herself to win because she sees all the cards as friends and wants to prove she has a deeper connection with the cards. This makes her more like Chihaya. I have two points in this episode where my opinion differs from yours but that's fine. One is Tsukuba telling Empress to take Kana out. I dont think Tsukuba here is trying to be underhanded he has throughout the previous matches been worried for Kana and her fatigue and he says it to Empress as well that he's not trying to put himself in for his sake but for the team so I think this moment is a W for Tsukuba. The second moment is the Taichi moments. I am of the personal opinion that I dont think Taichi is confident that he has a chance with Chihaya. I think after that moment of seeing her on the phone with Arata he has lost alot of confidence and so I dont think he is intentionally doing the Im being the cool distant guy act as this complicated ploy to silently have Chihaya notice him he still is supportive of Chihaya and therefore if he notices something he will act but I think he has given up on trying to woo Chihaya all together. Even if thats not the case I dont think either moments this episode was a moment where it was the right time for him to be romantic and stare in her eyes and all that Chihaya is doubting herself and spiralling in her thoughts and Tsutomu is trying to tell them the game plan in the midst of all this Im glad Taichi got her out of that spiral so now she can relax and focus on the next match and focus on what Tsutomu is saying about Fujisaki. He could have looked at her briefly when he helped her up to watch the end of Tsutomu's match but it's here or there for me. I think Taichi in general needs confidence which will help him to be more proactive and Arata as well if he wants a chance with Chihaya in the future whether as a friend or something more needs to be more proactive as well. I think for both Arata and Taichi they could take a page out Shinobu and Chihaya book and be confident and just go for it. I agree that Shinobu is a bit much for Arata and while she idolizes Arata she doesnt care for him as a person but I guess I ship the two for the sake of Shinobu inspiring Arata to be more confident and to put his foot down in what he wants for himself. Im looking forward to the Fujisaki match and the rest of the season.
