STEINS;GATE: Episode 17 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Ahhh, how did I miss this comment!? I’m so sorry for getting to it a week late, but what an episode! Feyris giving up the time with her dad is so sad…I don’t know if I could have done that, either. I agree with your “take” on how she feels and what lets her sacrifice. But yeah, I definitely - in her shoes - would have questioned Okabe! Because of how “real” that time was to her. That question on Okabe is really hard! This show is definitely asking some interesting questions! Thank you for the comment!

Oh, this episode. I always get so emotional with this episode. I remember the first time I watched this episode, and how it hit me so hard that Feyris had to give up her dad. It's such a terrible situation. In her shoes, I'm not sure that I could have done that, but I guess her decision does hinges in the idea that she views her time with her dad as a "dream" as she calls it; she thinks that her time with her dad was not real, never meant to be, and so, giving it up becomes "the right thing to do", to bring back "reality". This, of course, is questionable to me, because her time with her dad was very much a real thing for her, time spent wth a real person, and had she not regained her old memories, that's exactly what it would have remained for her. Yes, i totally agree that Okabe is being selfish here. He is doing this not for the sake of the world (though it would help it in the long run as the change brings us closer to the 1% change) but only for Mayurii's sake. And yet, it also seemed, for a moment if nothing else, that after hearing Feyris' story he was struggling hard on what to do; after all, he is a guy who wants to help his friends, as stated by himself, and this little conflict is a very interesting test to his convictions. In the end, Feyris makes the decision herself, but I wonder what he would have chosen for himself. Honestly, this show is so fascinating, and I had almost forgotten that.

What a heartbreaking and interesting episode! Ok so in both timelines where Suzuha left before the rain seemingly ruined the machine and in the tragic timeline she died in 2000 of two different circumstances so I dont think she had 10 years to find the IBN if that was the year she was set to die in. The Suzuha dmail was the last one because I remember how we were freaking out how much Akihabara had changed due to Fayris email and scared that he was using it again and we dont get to see what happens until last episode. While yes Kurisu doesnt know what Suzuha said the plan at the end of the day is to bring the meter above 1% so we can drastically change world lines. So far reversing the two dmails has brought us from 0.33 to 0.45 so while I agree that the world line itself is not going to be exactly the same the plan Kurisu has proposed seems to be getting us closer to the goal but at what cost and will it give the desired result? Who knows. I went back to the episodes to see if I could record the changes with the numbers so originally in episode 8 I think before Feyris changed the world line we were in world line 0.456903 and in this episode we are in world line 0.456914 so clearly as you have explained we cant reverse the dmail and go to the exact timeline but we are in a timeline where Akihabara has moe culture again and Feyris did have the IBN510 at some point. This episode really does leave you not knowing how to feel because on one hand the fact that Feyris brought moe culture to Akihabara and got to meet Mayuri and all of them through that clearly made her really happy and this is something she is passionate about but the other choice is her having her dad with her and she isnt wrong that basically she created a false scenario that she never would have gotten without time travel but the same could be said for Okarin the only difference is that he hasnt accomplished the happiness he wants to achieve through time travel which is saving Mayuri.
