Chihayafuru Season 2: Episode 3 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Right?! It feels so crazy to already be here!! What a season so far! This episode was great! I love the callback with Tsutoumu and his relation to Tsukuba! I love seeing how useful and relevant as a team member he is in this activity - I just wanted to hug him in this! And Nishida being a mentor, too; it was so sweet to see! I love the character development with these two, like you talked about in this comment! And Tsukuba’s brothers! So precious; you can tell they really love him. Sumire keeps getting better and better and starting to get pride in her skills; yes! And ooohhhh, that’s such a good point about Taichi as the Jack of All Trades! There’s something with Episode 4 I want to tie into that…I’ll save that for Episode 5! And Chihaya - SO impressive! I love how on her game she is! And yessss, I’m SO FASCINATED by Shinobu and Arata’s “history” - I need to know more! I wonder if it’s one-sided as well; as we saw from Shinobu last season, she seems to develop these “rivalries” that may or may not be recognized by the other party. I cannot wait until we find out more with them! Thank you for the comment!

I was so surprised to see that we're already doing the interhigh competition, we're only on episode 3 after all, but I was also really excited. And, gosh, I loved this episode so much. Seeing Tsutomu remember how he felt in his first tournament, and then chosing a strategy that will allow the new memebers to feel useful - by not only adding them to the roster but actually putting them in positions that will make them an advantage even if they won't be able to win any games, was so cool and sweet. It was a really nice call back, and a nice way to see how he is growing. Something that I found really cool was seeing Nishida giving Tsukuba his two cards to master. I find the idea that you are better at the cards that start like your name fascinating because of how much sense it makes; of course it'll be easier to pick up on the sounds of your name, sounds that you've been intimately familiar with since the moment you are born, and making that into a strength is just really interesting. And it also made me laugh a little, because Nishida wants Tsukuba to master the ones like his surname, from practicality since there are fewer cards and that'll make it easier, but Tsukuba, who is an ace at 2-card-karuta and thus listening for the second verse wants to go for learning the ones that sound like his given name, which in Japanese would be said second *lol* That's a fun little detail that made me laugh some. Tsukuba's little brothers are so sweet, and I loved their unshakable faith in their big brother. i hope we see more of them. Sumire never stops growing on me. I love that she is realizing that she can be really good, and to take pride in her skills as much as her looks. Poor Taichi, Tsukuba not mentioning him when he is listing how reliable Nishida and Chihaya are xD I mean, he was part of those three reliable players that played, and are playing all the matches, but Tsukuba had nothing to particularly characterize him by. Which, in retrospecte also plays well with the idea that Taichi is a jack of all trades but a master of none, yet at least, and has only recently started to practice his swings in public even if he is embarrased. We need to talk about Chihaya, though, because winning two perfect games in a row is super impressive. She was very much in her element and played so beautifully and I want to get into her head and see what her motivation was. And then we get the whole surprise that Shinobu knows exactly who Arata is, I'm intrigued! Arata has never mentioned, or even alluded to her existance, so I wonder if it's a one-sided admiration, or we just didn't get enough time with Arata to see. In any case, I want to know all the details about that.

I love this episode Tsukuba has my heart and I love how much of a bro he is even though we joke about his lizard tongue we dont want him to portray unappealing snake like behaviour so glad they got that in check. How dare they tease that Shinobu and Arata might know each other and tease that soft look on Shinobu's face and not give us more. This isnt even because Im a Taichihaya shipper Im just very curious what Shinobu and Arata as a ship would look like. I totally could see Shinobu being protective of Arata to a yandere level. I agree that all ships are valid too and whether its Arata, Taichi no one or a wildcard Im here for it as long as it's good writing. On a personal level I do want to talk about why I love the Taichi route so far and this isnt to convince anyone it's just personal feelings it has to do with several things like the banter between him and Chihaya that I cant really picture with Arata as yet, me feeling more invested in his love life, struggles and character development, the relatability that Taichi and Chihaya would have to each other as growing leaders and I think my last reason again all this could change within this season and the third and a whole stretch of manga that remains and it's that Chihaya and Taichi would have alot more balance in the sense that we all know Chihaya would inspire Taichi and challenge him as well in ideals etc but Taichi since he understands that there is more to life than karuta would encourage her in a healthy way to reset. I guess what Im picturing is that beyond high school whether or not Chihaya is doing well in karuta or not Taichi who we hope will be more healthily supportive of her and has been established from day 1 to be a well-rounded individual because he had to balance school with the other facets of his life would ensure that Chihaya resets her mind by doing other activities than karuta and taking other perspectives. I think one thing that was so important for Chihaya to learn in season 1 is that improving in karuta isnt done only by memorizing cards and practicing karuta but motivation and inspiration can be acquired by doing other activities. Im not saying it wouldnt be cute to have Arata and Chihaya nerd out over karuta 24/7 and be wholesome inspiring each other but I guess I have a hard time picturing what more will drive their relationship other than karuta and I feel that's where Im missing the appeal of the Aratahaya ship. I didnt mean to go on a whole rant any ship is valid and if right now Arata and Chihaya is the better ship for you I see why because Taichi has some developing to do but regardless outside of the ships the relationships between all these characters are well written so Im excited for Shinobu being thrown into a dynamic with Arata and for more tournament hype.
