CHIHAYAFURU: Episode 25 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*FULL CIRCLE HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

It's the season finale for Chihayafuru and what a great, come-full-circle moment with our girl, Chihaya! I love all that's getting set up for season 2, while still having mystery and of COURSE, we get some lovely fan service for our shippers....from ALL angles!

Thanks for watching this first season with me! We're taking a break next week (There'll be another reaction in its place on the channel) but then, I'm coming back to hit at FULL FORCE with season 2, y'all!

CHIHAYAFURU: Episode 25 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

I agree - calm for a season finale, but still so much to look forward to with Season 2! I definitely think Taichi was inspired by Arata! I love that he let go of any shame and is openly practicing that! He really does overthink at times, but we love Taichi! And I love that idea that her and Taichi are both needing to grow in confidence of themselves; that’s really sweet! And that added with Arata getting his groove back? We love to see it! It’s also nice to see Kana gets some goals as well! As well as Tsutomu! I feel Nishida’s already a well-rounded A-rank, so he can take a back seat this episode, haha!! And then Murao, yes! That’s such a wild note that I hadn’t thought about; if anyone saw him during that time, too! That makes it really sad if he was alone all that time. You bring up an AMAZING point about that time he was alone and I’ll have to recap it when we start season 2! And 5 more members sounds DAUNTING AS ALL GET OUT - I don’t know how they’re going to swing that, but I guess we’ll find out! And yes, the Empress took the easy way out on that one. Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! I’m so excited for season 2!

Well, that's a season finale, alright. It was, somehow much calmer than I was expecting, but it set up Season 2 very well. Taichi finally practicing his swings after talking to Arata is such an interesting move. I feel that Arata's words really hit him after he was probably thinking that he needed to memorize the cards better, but he already knows them well, he just needs to be confident that he does (as Chihaya sort of pointed out, in her Chihaya way, all those episodes ago while in the car when she said that she and Taichi both overthink too much) and train his body to be faster and react on par with his mind. Speaking of which, I think in that sense both Chihaya and Taichi need to go through somewhat the same development. As Tsutomu points out, Chihaya already has way more than 8 one-syllable cards that she can recognize but she isn't confident that she can; in part because she is Chihaya and she is oblivious and didn't noticed, but also because she has being overthinking everything this season and trying to perfect her playing style by incorporating so many elements from other people. Now, if she can build that confidence, if she can learn to hone that ability that is already there, she will be a force to reckon. In that sense, I love how Chihaya and Taichi's journeis mirror. And then we have Arata, who is rediscovering his love for Karuta, and his limits at this point, and just inspiring everyone around him in the best way. It's nice to see him so full of passion again. But this wasn't an episode where only Chihaya, Taichi, and Arata get some development and new goals, but also Kana! Wanting to become a reader for the Queen match is such a perfect dream for her, and we had been building up to it in such a nice way that it feels natural. And, I mean, Tsutomu also gets the goal to grow more, even if it's a subtler goal than Kana's; not to forget that we also see how his notes and analysis are so helpful and such an asset for the team, and for him as well. Really, the only one that didn't get much of a development was Nishida, poor guy. Someone that I was not expecting to like so much, or have much to say about was Murao. I feel like he realized with his siblings that he had left Arata alone for so long. He reproached Arata for leaving Karuta for a year when we first meet him, and I wonder if he is realizing that maybe it wasn't only that Arata left Karuta for a year, but also that he was left alone, and I wonder if anyone went to see him in that time, if Murao himself went, or if he was all alone after his grandpa died and left to grapple with his emotions towards Karuta alone. And that's why Murao went to him now, maybe a little guiltly, but finally ready to be there for Arata and help him become better and reach that goal of becoming the Master. I mean, after all, it wasn't until someone reached to Arata about Karuta again, Taichi and Chihaya, that he was able to sort of unfreeze and start thinking about Karuta again; so I wonder what would have happened to him if he had had someone who loved Karuta like his grandpa did with him through that difficult time. What I do know for certain is that I'm very invested in this dynamic now and want more of it. And then, to hook us even more for Season 2, our poor guys have to somehow find 5 more club members to keep the room. Considering that their efforts of recruiting by winning the Sports Festival relay race didn't work very well, I don't think it'll be an easy road ahead. Also, I might have laughed out loud a little at seeing the Empress leave them a note with the daunting news instead of telling them in person, just a funny little detail for me.
