Minor Update: Sherlock Holmes, Lovecraft, and Volume 4 Signed Copies
Added 2025-01-12 04:39:53 +0000 UTCI try not to update with purely personal stuff too often because, well, I'm a keyboard monkey who writes about magic ninjas vying for immortality and people getting sucked into other universes. Why would you care what I think about most things? Plus, I'm crazy boring in real life. Case in point. Today, on my day off, I watched a three-hour documentary about Richard Nixon. I found it fascinating, but I suspect that many of your are just like...Why? Probably slightly less boring for some of you, I also started watching a 4-part documentary about ancient Rome hosted by Mary Beard. Some people have strong opinions about her, but the Roman Empire is interesting regardless of the public perception of her. Plus, it's free for me on Amazon Prime, and I feel like I ought to try to wring some value out of that subscription once or twice a year.
Something that many of you probably don't know about me is that I'm a huge Sherlock Holmes fan. HUGE. I read a lot of the original Conan Doyle Holmes short stories back in high school. At this point, I think I've read the entirety of the official Holmes canon. I also watched the 80s adaptations starring Jeremy Brett, Sherlock, Elementary, the Robert Downey Jr Holmes movies, and even some of the old Basil Rathbone adaptations. I've also plowed through a ton of derivative works by other authors. I think the best I ever found were a series of short story collections written by Hugh Ashton. Five stars, would definitely recommend.
So, why did I tell you all of that personal Holmes trivia? It's to put some context on why I've opted to back a Holmes-related Kickstarter project. It's basically a one-off episode featuring an original story. I think there might be some background hope that it'll kick off an actual series, but TV production is a murky, alien world about which I know nothing. So, I'm not going to comment on how probable that part of it is. The other reason I'm backing it is because I miss seeing new Sherlock Holmes visual content. If you're curious about the project, you can check it out here. Based on the page, most of the actual filming is done. At this point, they just want to film a few more scenes and do some post-production work, so there's a high probability that there will be an end-product for this thing.
On to Lovecraft. So, I thought that Lovecraftian thing I did was going to be the first and last, but then I got another idea. So, I started working on that today. I don't know if it's going to be a short story or maybe a novella, but it's absolutely a backburner project. It's probably going to be my other weekend project for a few weeks. But, if anyone read that first one and wished there would be more, there will be...eventually. As to the original weekend project, yes, I'm still working on the light novel in fits and starts. There will probably be a new chapter or two this coming week.
Finally, for anyone subscribed to the Uncle Kho's Corner tier, I have a box of Volume 4 paperbacks sitting by my desk. So, my plan is ship to those out this coming week. There will be a post about the availability of other signed volumes. I actually went through and counted everything up back around christmas. I dutifully wrote it down so I wouldn't have to remember the details. Then, I lost the paper it wrote it all down on. So, I have to do it again. But...soon.

2025-01-12 09:49:39 +0000 UTCThe only things I really knew about Nixon was that he went to China, there was a scandal called Watergate, and that he resigned. Given how pivotal that resignation turned out to be for America and American culture, he seemed like someone I should know more about.

2025-01-12 07:01:16 +0000 UTCI've thought about it a few times, but sourcing appropriately sized boxes is a pain. If I want ONE box, it's easy. If i want 20 boxes, I'd have to order them and hope the quality is okay. Then, there's added labor in terms of turning the flat cardboard into the boxes and taping them up. It's the kind of thing that, while not a huge time investment, is enough extra effort to make me want to put it off.

2025-01-12 06:44:25 +0000 UTCWooo! Downey is great. Gotta admit, that's the only Sherlock I've ever consumed. Also, idk if it's possible, but I'd recommend shipping the books in a small box! Mail service jammed the last paperback I received (not yours!) Into the mailbox with another small order and all but destroyed them both. Fun times
