DragonCon
Added 2024-08-30 01:58:59 +0000 UTCSo…life happened. The apartment move ran up hard against the deadline to leave for DragonCon. How hard? I quite literally turned in the keys for my old apartment right before I loaded my car and headed for Atlanta. There are also piles of unpacked boxes littering the new apartment. It was what you might call less than ideal.
I did manage to get to Atlanta and checked into my hotel without incident. After which I almost immediately fell asleep. Nine hours of driving takes it out of you. The con technically started today, but it was mostly still setup. I picked up my pass and then made a terrible life choice. You see, it was only 4/10 of a mile from the hotel to the building of the vendor hall. Well, let me give you a little insight. 4/10 of a mile in Atlanta heat and humidity is like two miles in Ohio heat and humidity. by the time I got there and found my way inside, I was sweat-soaked and vile.
Now, a smart person would have cut their losses, gone back to their hotel, showered, and gone back. I was not that person. I wish I had been. I felt so gross that it was really hard to relax and be personable. Lesson learned. Couple of lessons learned really.
The rest of the day was fairly mundane…for me at least. I did briefly meet Tao Wong, author of the Thousand Li series. I like those books and he’d actually heard of mine, so that was kind of cool. I met a few other people that I liked personally but only caught their first names. So, no bragging rights there. I am going to try to meet Seth Ring if I can arrange it.
Now, for people trying to figure out when and where to find me…see the schedule below.

I am so sorry you had to experience Atlanta traffic. No human being should ever have to suffer that.

2024-08-30 18:45:54 +0000 UTCIsn't it funny when you think to yourself "I do this all the time. How hard could it be?" And then you remember that you're 50 or in the sweltering ass crack of the Americas or 4000 feet higher above sea level than normal or have to wade through a con crowd so dense that you start having high school flashbacks. The lesson you have learned will be forgotten in time, only to be remembered the next time it happens. This is not prophecy, it is wisdom.

2024-08-30 03:08:11 +0000 UTCWalked the half mile from my office this morning to get our badges, and I was definitely sweating by the time I got back, and I'm more or less a native at this point. Hasn't cooled off nearly as much as I hoped it was going to. Be safe out there.
