Pause Billing Poll?

Okay. So, I'm in a bit of a conundrum. There are people here subscribed to tiers that only get Unintended Cultivator chapters, which I'm not writing right now. But there are also people subscribed here who seemingly want chapters of anything I care to write, and I am still writing. Part of me feels like, with everything going on, I should turn off billing for the next month. The problem is that it's all or nothing. If I turn off billing, I have to turn it off for EVERYONE. I can't pick and choose tiers. If I could, I would have turned off the billing for the cultivator-only tiers immediately.
So, I'm going to let you guys vote on it. But I want you to go into the vote with a clear understanding of what will happen. If I turn off billing, I won't be posting chapters of anything for the next month, regardless of how much I'm writing. You won't lose access to anything that you have access to now. You will eventually get to see the chapters I'm writing...after billing turns back on. That might sound a little harsh but this is my job. I don't expect anyone to work for free, and I hope you don't expect that from me either. I'll let this poll run for 24 hours and see where we're at.

Keep billing, a lot of authors take a break from their more commercially successful stories to help stay true to their vision or just do be doing something different. I believe people who are not interested can pause their own membership. The point of this platform is to help support creatives so they can do what they enjoy without as *much* stress about financial obligations. I could ramble on for 20,000 more words supporting you and why, just worry about taking care of yourself and come back to cultivation when you're ready. The real war arc should be good and not like the destruction of that sect 😀

Lonnie

Im fine with it staying on. Like supporting authors i like even if they aren’t necessarily actively writing. Helps to keep you going even is you are having troubles or writing things im not interested in

Lazyperson321

I was initially on the not pause bulling but then I realized if you paused bulling it would be a good opportunity to make a backlog

Abdulaziz ALRumaih

Leave it on. People are responsible for their own choices regarding their membership. They can cancel for now and hop back on again if they choose to.

XR

Never pause billing, it'll just waste your time with Patreon dumbfuckery messing things up in the backend, and the solving of which would just cause you stress when you ought to be free to do other important stuff.^^ And also, fuck the billing, as far as you writing more chapters is concerned. We're your *patrons*, not your customers. We're not paying for services rendered, we're appreciating your art and supporting it with some money. We're lucky if you let us see behind the scenes a bit early.

Eleeyah

There is a downside to pausing billing which one of the other authors I read encountered - new people cannot sign up. So, if someone has read your work (or listened on Audible) and wants to join your patreon they will not be able to do so if you pause billing. Personally, I enjoy your work and I think you have been open about what are working on and when UC will resume. If people want to pause themselves by unsubbing for a month, I think that is a better option than preventing new people from reading.

Newbie_101

If some one doesn't want the read Terry they can resubscribe next month it's easy and you lose nothing.

Physo22

I love both Unintended and Terry and find the rest of what you write to be interesting. More than that, you're moving to improve the conditions that allow you to write which is why we're (or I) am supporting you to begin with, no? I pay more for all of the tv subs I don't watch per month than what I pay here for good writing. I say continue to bill. If it all goes sideways and it turns into a horror show move wise that extends more than a month, then reconsider, maybe.

Angela Roberts

I'll be frank and put it this bluntly: I subscribed for Unintended Cultivator, and don't have a ton of interest in the other stories you happen to be writing. I may or may not decide to unsubscribe for a few months until you resume Unintended Cultivator and build up enough of a backlog to justify paying for reading advance chapters. That's not a statement on the quality of your other work; it's just not to my particular tastes at the moment. I'm sure I'll read it eventually, but I'm in no rush to do so. That being said, you are easily one of the productive writers on Patreon that I've ever seen, and plenty of your other subscribers seem to be really enjoying the other stories you're writing while you take a break from UC. Most Patreon only update once or twice a week--you frequently update every 24 hours ON the hour. You have a tremendous work ethic and have cultivated a dedicated audience as a result---why not just write what you're most passionate about and let others decide if they'd prefer to unsub for awhile? I highly doubt that many of your subscribers are going anywhere.

Telosa

I'm okay either way, but slightly prefer pausing. Mainly because I usually wait for a few chapters to build up to read them anyways (I like to have large chunks of story to read).

bpete

Do you mean pause or cancel a subscription? Because I don't see pause option. I don't mind to wait a month but some people might. The problem is that the information about break from UC wasn't public to everyone so if someone subscribed at the begining of July only then he could find information about the break. So I can understand if someone might want to pause the billing.

JT

Dude, the fee is less than lunch. No need to turn off billing for a month.

IndyBart

Came for UC, currently reading Rinn's Run and plan on getting into IT. Like others have said, if I wanted to stop paying while waiting for UC to come back, I'd just pause my sub.

Rallaster

Eric, you post more than any other author I follow. I'm loving Terry, and I'm stoked for the return of Unintended Cultivator. Keep it rolling, I'm good to pay a slower month.

Michael

I don't plan books quite that way. It's about 70,000 words now, and I'm thinking it'll run approximately 110,000 words.

Eric Dontigney

You have the most consistent writing and posting schedule with the highest throughput of content out of all of the writers I've paid for on patreon. I have no problem giving you a 1-month break. Since I'm still getting Terry chapters, it's even better

Ward Yorgason

I'm honestly at a point that I have throughly enjoyed Unintended Cultivator that you could stop post at all and still keep billing me till you good and gosh darn ready to post again thanks for your hard work

LICKnTILC

Patriarch Lu has quite the conundrum. Terry is perfectly happy to be far away from bureaucracy.

luda305

Speaking for myself, I am adequately entertained by Terry and would rather you not go unpaid during a move month. If you don't mind sharing though, how many chapters are you planning on ToD being?

BelligerentGnu

Absolutely not! You put out a metric ton of great work basically daily. It’s a rate that no one I know of can match with any quality. We’re underpaying, if anything. If someone can’t appreciate that, they can pause.

Asad haider

I'm paying what it's worth to me. I'm not going to trip over a missed month, particularly when you're providing other material and are in fact working. As the folks above said, as long as you're providing clear communication then no one can complain and they can make their own choices regarding their subscriptions.

Valderan

I also think that the people who want to pause their subscription can do that themselves. The rest of us will keep supporting you. You're still working, so of course you should still get paid. And even if you weren't working, many of us are patreons because we want to support our favourite creators, not just for the benefits.

Wimsey's daughter

I am here to support an author I like to read from. I'd rather keep paying for a month or 2 so I can keep supporting.

Corac

Yes I'm paying for cultivator, no its not being posted. But it's an investment - I'm not getting more if the author cant make ends meet.

Captain Nuclear

Came for Cultivator, got pulled into Terry.

Nathan V

I'm subscribed only to read Cultivator but in the end I subscribed to support you. I'm fine with billing continuing because you'll be back to it in future.

Arturs Audris

I can only speak for myself, as someone who is here mainly for the Unintended Cultivator story, if I wanted to stop paying you, i'd just pause my sub. You've been pretty open about what's going on, that is, as someone who only cursorily follows, I was always informed about what's happening. I think I have enough agency to decide whether or not I want to keep paying even when there currently aren't any chapters.

Magisch

As long as you're communicating clearly (which you are) I don't see the need to pause billing. I subscribed for Unintended Cultivator chapters, and when you said you weren't going to be writing any for a while, I paused my subscription. When you start again, I'll subscribe again.
