Stay with Ren'Py 7.3.5 or move to 7.4.1?
Added 2021-01-26 00:45:13 +0000 UTCAll,
The vast majority of Ren'Py VN's launch on the tried and true Ren'Py 7.3.5 framework. On the last day of 2020, Ren'Py 7.4.1 launched with significant improvements, including a model-based renderer and the correction of a number of bugs that can cause development headaches.
That said, 7.4.1 does come at a cost: It no longer supports Windows XP and requires a minimum MacOS version of 10.10.
Before making a decision on a framework change like this, we figured we'd poll our patrons on whether this change would impact them or not.
We'll make a decision once have had a chance to weigh the feedback we receive here.

Nobody using XP anymore, I'd just do it. Frankly, it's not worth the headache of supporting XP in software development any longer anyway, and it's waaaaay behind these days. Between XP and 10 there's 8/8.1, 7, and Vista. The last thing you should be worried about is a 20yr old OS

2021-01-28 09:11:43 +0000 UTCAs much as I loved FCKGW, it's days as a workhorse have passed. It's earned it's retirement, so I vote let it go.
2021-01-26 10:32:36 +0000 UTCAlso happily playing on a Mac, 10 years old, still running great on 10.13 after a few self installed upgrades. Only worry I have ist about the saves. In another AVN I play all saves became useless after a Renpy Update. On the other hand, if something like this can happen it might be a good idea to do the upgrade now instead of further down the line.

2021-01-26 04:11:25 +0000 UTCThat's okay, we won't make fun of you. As for Windows XP, Microsoft stopped supporting their own OS years ago, and also stopped supporting 7 and, I believe, 8 and 8.1, too. I mean, come on, XP is twenty years old! Probably the biggest reason Macs didn't catch on with gamers was the lack of upgrade options, since you could only get upgrades from Apple, whereas PC upgrades could be gotten from just about anyone. There used to be a lot of custom built gaming rigs out there, but that wasn't really an option with Apple computers.

2021-01-26 01:38:35 +0000 UTCWhat's a Mac? All kidding aside, Macs never really caught on with gamers for various reasons. I'm surprised there are still people trying to play games on a Mac, or at least games designed to be played on a Mac.
