It feels to me from the interactions we’ve already had with the beast kin there is a decent amount of emphasis on strength to determine one’s position socially. After Rudy demolished them in combat they were already submissive to him. Kinda similar to how Gyes and the guard rolled on their back and exposed their bellies expecting “punishment” from Rudy. Cats and dogs usually tussle and determine the alpha. Alpha can do what they want afterwards and the rest follow. A bit of human nature comes out in the “dating and marriage come first” thing, but they basically determine he is worthy of becoming their spouse because of his strength. Rudy is in the wrong for sure, beating them in a fight was all he really had to do to earn their respect. Same with Fitz, the girls were haughty and rude when told off by Fitz until Rudy put his foot down and they instantly submitted.
