January 2024 Update

Greetings everyone! Apologies for waiting until halfway through the month to address a formal update, but I’ve got a few things I’d like to talk about!

First of all, it is the beginning of a new year so it is a good point to start evaluating my workflow and output going forward.

2023 Comics

In 2023 I drew a total of 155 comic pages for Patreon, which depending on your perspective is either a lot or a modest amount (depending on your workflow standards). The main thing for me was that in 2023 I started to take a different approach to comic making and instead of forcing myself to complete an entire story each month I opted to take longer to complete projects that needed it. It is because of this approach I was physically able to make comics with a higher quality standard than previous years like Backstage, just drawn across several months. I truly believe even going forward that a quality over quantity approach is worth investing in, so I don’t plan on changing much about how I handle month by month projects. That said, there are a few other things I would like to have the freedom to make outside the realm of digital comics.

Recently I’ve been dipping my toes into printed comics (as I’m sure EVERYONE is aware by now hehe) and absolutely want to continue to make more. The Movie Flick Chick Volume 1 release was actually a huge success for me, and it seems now that a few people are starting to actually receive their copies. It will take awhile before I have enough MFC comics to make a Volume 2 but don’t worry, I have a few other ideas in the forefront of my mind for more books. I’ve also learned a few things about running a preorder that will make my next one run just a bit smoother for me.

January Comic

So because the first little bit of January has been mostly filled with me fulfilling book orders I’ve been thinking about what else I want to make this month. I’ve got a short little idea for another Movie Flick Chick comic featuring the new literature reviewer character I designed last November (I decided to go with the name Paige so her review name could be Page by Paige). After that however I feel like I want to do something completely different for next month. January for me is going to be a bit of a recharge month overall but I want to still draw a few fun things here and there. Overall the point right now is for me to allow myself to loosen up and experiment a bit.

Something else I plan to have up this month are the yearly feedback polls where I get a feel for what kinds of content you’d all like to see more of going forward! Expect those to go up tomorrow!

I think that covers it for now! This is meant to be a sort of general update to give you all a very general idea of what my plans for the year are. 2023 was overall a very good year for me creatively and I’m still pumped for what will happen in 2024.
