Hey everyone! Happy Tuesday. I hope my little April Fool’s prank the other day at least made you smile, but I do have a real poll for this month that I’ll be posting soon.
In regards to Backstage, the comic I’ve been working on throughout March, currently 22 of the 38+ total pages have been inked. I’ve also been doing some color tests the last few days, which I have been really itching to show off! Because it’s a story about punk musicians, I really wanted to do something neat and make this comic look sort of like an underground printed comic. After some messing around I ended up with some colors that I think evoke some sort of vintage feeling, but also toyed with doing a pure black and white version of the comic as well.
Here’s the results of what I came up with using page 8 and 12 as an example;
THE COLORED VERSION

THE BLACK AND WHITE VERSION

Honestly, I do dig the black and white version a lot too. I think after I finish the color version I will release a B&W “zine” version as well in that color scheme. What do you guys think? Do you guys think it’d be worth making a B&W version of the finished comic after it’s done?
I still have to go back and finish inking a bunch of pages but at the moment I’m focused on coloring pages 8-12 so I can release those as a preview and you guys who are not on the $6 tier can check out a little bit of how the comic is shaping out so far. Look out for the preview in the next few days.
As for the rest of the month, I’m expecting to finish up the colors on Backstage completely by around the end of the month which still puts me in line with how much work I want to finish each month. In the past I’ve somehow managed to accomplish making up to 30 pages of comics in a single month and already I literally can’t figure out how I did that. I think getting ~20ish pages of comics done in a month (depending on the complexity) is honestly pretty feasible without putting me into burnout mode, and still frees up enough time to do commissions and well… life stuff that I’m sure all of you can relate to. I also want to have the time to do little drawings of my own characters and draw some fun things for myself too, been forcing myself to remember there’s a reason I chose illustration as a career haha.
Anyways, thanks for reading all this! I meant to put up an update right at the beginning of the month but that didn’t end up happening. I’m going back to work on some comic pages now. Thank you once again for all of your continued support, from your forever grateful Bonerbob.
