Ellis isn't mad at Boyd for killing his mom, he's really mad that he wasn't there after he repeatedly asked him to check up on her. So he was thinking it's his fault she ended up becoming that way, because Boyd wasn't there to help her.

Abby was killing people cuz she thought it was the way to bring them home and Sarah was doing the same thing. Yeah, she knew it was wrong but whatever those voices were telling her was convincing. Sarah just didnโt crash out like Abby did. Yal ease up on Sarah cuz I was heated for Kenny too at first. I think Sarah is a nice girl, that place just chose her.

How has he not realized yet that there's nothing Boyd really could have done? Everybody in this whole town is irrational and self-righteous and they all work my nerves at some point tbh lol still love the show anyway!

The fact that he told Boyd that Abbyโs mental state was deteriorating and he still decided to make the town his #1 priority is what makes Ellis still standoffish to his father.
