About 25 mins in, during the flashback scene where young Elijah's mother gave him his first comic book, she says "They say this one has a surprise ending". I think that was M Night's way of letting us know that this movie would have a surprise ending. Also, there was a lot of purple around Elijah. The comic book was wrapped in purple, his shirt was purple, he wore purple when he got older. In comics, many villains are in purple: The Joker, Thanos, Kang, Killgrave the mind controlling guy in Jessica Jones, Agatha Harkness in WandaVision. We should have known it was Elijah all along. LOL.

Fun fact this was Quentin Tarantino's favourite movie of the year when it came he had a brilliant thing to say about it his description was what if superman existed on earth not knowing he was superman and he thinks its easily Bruce Willis best proformance of all time I would have to agree https://youtu.be/gYEI20faWfk
