August 2019 Preview!

Hey everyone,

As the summer races by here (and my 40th birthday approaches rapidly UGH), we have gotten ahead on some things and falling behind on others. The monthly previews have taken the hardest hit. So before August 1st hits, and I’m a few days into my forties - DOUBLE UGH… here is the preview for August’s packages. :)

$5+ Level

Chain Mail continues bringing us into the Swamps of Sorrow map a map with a whole bunch of skulls, introducing danger right from the start. But also, it introduces a new terrain type, the Void. A dark and cloudy area where ambushes are abound. The quest "The All-Seeing Eye", has you traveling with a quirky collector that lost his eye. Not his own, but his precious and invaluable collectible that has gone missing. And finally, you'll encounter some giants and Orc Grunts. No big deal. There's also a new character! It's Zoella, the Astrologist bringing dice predictions and manipulation into the game.

In this month's Tempus Quest our crew is setting up shop on a new planet and helping the Liberation build a new HQ.

$10+ Level

We are happy to bring a very beloved solo game to its first physical printing. It's Count of Nine by Scott Czysz!

Count of Nine is a solo, 9 card, economic, city building Euro-style game.
You are the Count(ess) of the small territory of Nine. Search your  land for resources to build basic structures that will provide more  resources. Use these structures and resources to build up your small  village into a powerful economic force.
Count of Nine is played with 9 double-sided cards containing up to 2  resources and up to 2 structures on each side of the card.  There is no  board, no dice, no cubes, no meeples, just the 9 cards, so it makes a  great travel game.
The goal is to score the most victory points in a match, which is made up of 2 separate games.
In each game, first select one of the 5 "high structures" that will  be your goal of the game.  The 5 high structures are: Castle, Cathedral,  Monument, Harbour, and Town Square.
Then, play through the deck of the remaining cards (called a round)  and use resources on adjacent cards, and resources provided by already  built structures to build additional structures.  Play multiple rounds  to get everything you need to build your selected high structure.   Continue playing to accumulate additional victory points.
Victory points are awarded several ways:
- Victory points marked on some of the structure cards
- 1 victory point for each different structure built
- 2 victory points for each pair of identical structures built
- 5 victory points is a second "high structure" is built
Final score for each game is total victory points minus the number of  rounds played.  Final score for the match is the total of both games.

This is the same version as many of you played via PNP, but we have some more fun things planned with Scott and can't wait to announce them.

$20 Featured Wallet Game - Wonder Tales

This is a new game to us (and also a previously well-loved PNP). We took the game Wolfe & Co. and added a little Button Shy spin to it. The artwork is all new (and awesome!) and the game is a bit snappier. Fans of the old game will notice the round structure as well as the scoring changes. But for everyone that hasn't played it, here's some information! It joins our family friendly line of games like Potions Class and Why I Otter, but adds some compeititive tile laying to the mix.

NOTE: If you are not at the $20 level and want a copy of Wonder Tales, it'll go up for pre-order August 13th and you can use your discount.

You come across these wonderful pages of fairy tales, but something doesn't seem right. The pages seem to tell different stories. You and your opponent must try to connect the characters so that their stories may be told and not forgotten.

Wonder Tales is a quick game for two players of all ages. Each of the 17 characters cards represents a fairy tale character, but with a different player color on each side.

Players take turns placing characters with their color showing. The characters must create a grid as described my the round card. Once the grid is full, scores are tallied depending  on which combinations of characters and how they behave based on the adjacent and otherwise connected characters.

Each game consists of 2-3 rounds, with the grid shape changing each round. The first player to 2 wins is the winner!

Thanks everyone! Enjoy your weekend. I'm heading to celebrate my birthday at an indoor water park, like any other kid would want to. :)

Thank you Matthew!

Dennis Michels

I can tell you it's not planned. It's not impossible, but it's very expensive. We upped the number we produce for Feb from 500 to 1000, so that's why Jan is sold out. However, you can get the PnP version from the PnP folder.

Matthew Mitchell

Hey Matthew, great to hear February is still available. Are you planning a reprint for January maybe?

Dennis Michels

Hey Dennis, January is sold out, but you can still get a February package on the Webstore. Here's the link: https://buttonshygames.com/products/board-game-of-the-month-club-february-2019?_pos=3&_sid=dc2964d76&_ss=r

Matthew Mitchell

Hey Ken, Please email me directly at buttonshyhelp@gmail.com with a description of the issue so we can take care of it.

Matthew Mitchell

Hey Andreas, There are a few steps to make sure your packages get to the right place: 1) Change your mailing address in Patreon 2) Set Up "Mail Forwarding" with your local post office 3) Email the following to buttonshyhelp@gmail.com: a) Your full name b) Your new mailing address c) A list of months packages you are entitled to that haven't arrived yet

Matthew Mitchell

Hey Christian, Please email me directly at buttonshyhelp@gmail.com with a description of the issue so we can take care of it.

Matthew Mitchell

I was wondering if it is possible to order the January and February BGOTM packages, as I have missed these and I would love to complete the set. Thank you for your wonderful work!

Dennis Michels

I just noticed that I've been a patron since April at the $10 level and haven't received anything yet.... My address is correct, I've received things from other creators

Ken Taylor

Hey, quick question. I've been a patron at the $5 level since May and haven't received any of the Chain Mail stuff yet. That isn't an issue at all, but I'll be moving at the beginning of September and just wanted to ensure that things show up at the right place when the time comes. I'm guessing I can just change my shipping address in the Memberships section, and is it safe to assume that if I do that a week prior to moving things should work out just fine?

Andreas Nielsen

I meant to back the 5+ pledge but I was charged for the 20 is there any way to fix this?

Christian Mills

I had problems with 35, coasted through 40 but now I'm staring 50 in the face.... not gonna lie, I blinked first. :)

Hey Jamie! I bet you're thinking of our Discord Channel. It's a great place to hang out and chat with other BS Fans, Designers, and even Jason. We often post pictures of coming projects and other fun information there. Here's a link to join: https://discord.gg/Z6s7AMZ

Matthew Mitchell

Hey there I remember there was a chat somewhere but can't find it anymore. Where is it?

Jamie Specht

Happy Birthday! They don't get really hard until you hit about 65....
