February Package SPOILER!

(Above photo taken from Devious Devices Twitter. Thanks guys!)

Hello friends! As usual, we have a lot of awesome things going this week. Lots of planning for the monthly Kickstarters and Board Game of the Month Club Packages as well as prepping for Unpub and the dreaded day job. But it’s still the weekend so I’m not even thinking about that. :)

We also have Pickpockets in its last week on Kickstarter and we are working on a Wallet Game design contest. It hasn't been announced yet, but it was Ben Begeal's idea and it's going to be really cool. I've been a judge on a bunch of design contests (and even won one a while back), so it'll be neat to be on the back end this time. Expect a full announcement in the next week or so.

It’s a few days into March so we are well due to spoil the February packages. Everyone should have theirs by now with the exception of a few international supporters. If you haven’t received your, let me know.

ONTO THE SPOILERS!!!

The Big Lebowski. That’s all that needs to be said. It’s one of THE ESSENTIAL CULT FILMS and was one of the first to come to mind after Pulp Fiction. It’s so essential that we had two designers kind of fighting over it... and designer Jason Slingerland claimed it within about 5 seconds of me sending out my very basic “here’s the idea” DM. Not only did Jason claim the game, he already knew which part of the film he wanted to focus on. The Dude’s rug.

I've probably played It Really Ties The Room Together more than any other postcard game, and I've had a lot of fun with it. There's a little tactical element of the placement of your cards, which is right up my alley, but there's also a cool card draft where you can just ditch the whole pile of cards and end the round, but at the heavy cost of going last next turn. All in all, a fun little game inspired by a fun little movie.

Here's this month's in-depth interview episode of DIY Board Games with designer Jason Slingerland. We discuss The Big Lebowski, self-publishing, Jason's history in film, and more.

Also the postcard art was completed by Ben Toz, artist of the comic Freedom Edge, and artist of a whole bunch of upcoming Button Shy games.

Next up is our monthly Movie Plotz and Wild Cats card. We had a lot of fun with these, especially Dude Cat. It breaks the rules of the game a little, but is thematic perfection. It's also a fun twist on the game when you can mess with people without any worries of messing up yourself. The Movie Plotz card is very straightforward, but puts a great twist on the movie when players pick something like Table Tennis as a major plot point.

Once again we have our monthly Newsletter. This month's  Greatest Game to Hit The Table is Battlestar Galactica by Richard Gibbs. Richard runs 64 Oz Games, where he creates Braille Accessibility conversion kits for boardgames. Richard has given us the coupon code Tagmired to receive 10% off at http://www.64ouncegames.com between now and March 15th. Most of our Button Shy Games are available there as well.

We also have our good friends at Flip The Table with a haiku based off of their legendary Heartthrob episode, and a Semi Co-Op comic about the dreaded rule book.

Onto the $10+ bonus content.

This month we remembered the divider line, so everyone know what they should have received.

We had 4 Monopoly role cards to spice up everyone's favorite game (haha). Each has a whole bunch of new things going on. They have a special die roll, a starting corner / dollar amount, a special color where they gain extra money, and a big crazy special ability.

Then we have Ben Begeal's OP Cards (or Overpowered Cards). These are way overpowered abilities that you will use at a game night or convention. The abilities are great, as well as the downside. When you cheat with an OP Card, you have to give the card away. So make it count!

And last is Doug Levandowski's Throwing Star. If you backed Ninja, this was kind of spoiled there, but the timing was too good to pass up. Ninja is a very simple card duel, but it's not as simple as it sounds. Hitting someone quickly, is tough. We've had a lot of fun with this here. I can't wait to have it on me during convention season.

That's it for February! We have some of the March items here already and can't wait to send them your way. Soon enough!
