SPOILER ALERT - We're talking about January packages. Plus Ninja PNP!

Hey everyone! It's a busy week here and we have a few things left to send your way. Next time you hear from us will probably next week after we launch our Ninja Kickstarter Campaign on Tuesday, along with the next stage of the Board Game Road Trip with Benny Sperling in Texas.

QUICK QUESTION: Are updates once / twice a week too much for you? Just let us know! We're trying to find a groove here.

So.... speaking of Ninjas, we have the PNP ready for you to check out.  Here's what we've got as we prep for the campaign: NINJA CARDS (The game comes with 12, feel free to print more than the single sheet. Stretch goal cards not included.), STEALTH CARDS (These just have the website on them. Ninja info will be on the site very soon.) and RULES (Not final, as usual.) https://www.dropbox.com/s/9j3m916r2dggxgb/NINJA-PNP-012916.pdf?dl=0

Ninja: Silent But Deadly is a game night metagame, very much a lovechild of our two previous games Pretense and Con Crud. Yet Ninja preceded both. We're calling it a "dexterity metagame", but the game is essentially this: Each player starts with a "You Lose" card, and wants to get that card to other players by the end of the game night or party. How you get it to another player is the fun part. Sneak it into another game. Put it in the chips. Hide it in a rulebook or someone's bag. Whatever it takes.

You can also play it as an ongoing stealth game where you leave a Ninja card for your friends to find and lose. Then they'll pass it on to another friend, or even worse, back to you when you aren't expecting it. Very simple, sneaky fun.

ONTO THE SPOILERS!!!

If you haven't received your January package, turn around now. :) Most of you should have received them though, so we're going to talk about them a little bit.

As you probably guessed, our January game was inspired by Pulp Fiction. With art by Luke Milton, (artist and co-creator / podcaster at the pop culture site, Fruitless Pursuits), this was the movie that inspired the entire Cult Film game project. Ben Begeal's Say What Again made a big enough impact on the convention circuit that it escalated the entire project's timeline. The game got some quick publisher attention and it was well deserved as it's a blast.

Also, as promised, here is our super long and in-depth interview episode of DIY Board Games. http://www.buttonshy.com/bs/diy/DIYBG004.mp3

Here's a how to play video as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0c76yAMsyM

Along with Say What Again, we kept the inspiration going with our Movie Plotz and Wild Cats cards. These should add a little cult film twist to those games.

One of the things we didn't talk about before as we wanted it to be a surprise was the Newsletter. It's a simple description of what were doing, along with Ben's interview about the best game to hit the table - featuring Nat Levan, a not-quite-haiku haiku by our good friends at Flip The Table and a comic by the super-talented Semi Co-Op. We'll be keeping this up and we hope you enjoy it.

The big flub on the newsletter was the missing divider between the $5 level items and the $10+ level items. We had to keep it all on one newsletter to save on printing costs, but we intended on placing a divider so everyone knows which items came in their package. This will be fixed next time.

Speaking of the $10+ level items, this month we had Mediterralien and Battleship cards. The Battleship cards were called "Fixing Other Games" cards, and I don't think that's the perfect title. We're not trying to make them better (although many will say that games like these need to be better), we're just trying to craft a different experience. You'll see in a few months if we can eeek out our Football / Stratego combo game. :)

The Battleship cards, while tiny and dark, they make the game less of a seek and find and more of a seek and learn. And the Captains cut the length while giving cool bonus abilities.  Just a few small changes, but a very different experience.

And Mediterralien was my December baby. Initially a challenge to see how much I could get out of 7 cards (which actually ended up as 8), but also that I wanted to make an asymmetric game that put two very different play styles against each other. The theme came quickly after and within a week or two, I was testing it with Mike Mullins at a diner in PA. You may have rules questions and I'll be shooting a video here at some point very soon, but feel free to ask away. I'm always here.

That's pretty much everything. Everyone also received their member cards and some messages about their Wallet Game discounts. If you haven't used your discount for Avignon: A Clash of Popes and you want to use it before the month ends, just let me know. You can use it on any wallet game in our collection. And next week we start over and you can use it again for Ninja or anything else.

Thanks again everyone! We have a ton of fun stuff planned for February and we're building up the rest of the year as we speak. You are all the best and I hope we can return the favor through gaming.

this package was a blast. i was confused about why i didn't get some of the stuff (i'm a $5 backer), so thanks for clarifying that. i loved the theme! i admit i played "say what again" a bit different than the video- where it says "address the player", instead of saying the players name, i thought we were supposed to yell samuel l. jackson quotes at each other like so: "WHAT COUNTRY YOU FROM?" "what?" "WHAT AINT NO COUNTRY I EVER HEARD OF! DO THEY SPEAK ENGLISH IN WHAT?" "what?" and so on! we used his other movies too, and just made stuff up. "HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF THE AVENGERS INITIATIVE?" there was, of course, lots of cursing!

Thanks! We do need time to do the real work, haha. I try to cram a lot of info into one update and they take a little while to put together. The next will probably be mid week!

Updates once or twice a week sound great! I love hearing/seeing/reading about what's going on, in my mind there's no such thing as too many updates (but I can understand if some people don't want to see an update every day, for example, plus you need time to actually work on the things you're working on!). ;)
