2025-05-22 17:03:01 +0000 UTCThe name 'Bernard' appears in nearly everything Richard Curtis wrote, including other Blackadder serials, the movie 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' and other romcoms. The back story is that, when he was at Cambridge University, he and his friend Bernard Jenkin were in love with the same girl, Ann Strutt. She ended up marrying Jenkin, who would go on to become a rather pompous Tory MP. Curtis then spent much of his writing career getting his own back by naming various underwhelming characters 'Bernard.'
