I’m personally glad you never did DS9. TNG is really peak Trek.

Visible Pixels

There are youtube videos that loop the ambient noise from the bridge or engineering for 10 hours, if that kind of thing helps you sleep.

SnabbKassa

Yes! Watch Voyager, The Next Gen Movies, Stargate (which I have not seen so that would be so much fun) and Battlestar is such a good show :D and what else did you say, lol, I already forgot but I am down for all of it.

Terry Mitchell

Bit late, but whatevs xD. My mother is a huge fan of Voyager, so I had quite a bit of exposure to it as well. It's really pretty good, I personally would vote yes on moving on to Voyager after finishing up with TNG. I haven't seen much DS9, but from what I know it could also make sense to do that first, for continuity and not skipping any important events. I also hear it is quite popular as well ^^. You do you, just my thoughts, since it came up :)

JHVJ

This was definitely a good 'Picard is a quiet badass' episode. Don't mess with a Starfleet captain and his ship. I always took the title of the episode ('Starship Mine') as having a double meaning - Kelsey and her gang are essentially 'mining' the warp core of the Enterprise for the trilithium, but it's also about Picard protecting *his* ship. Of course, he didn't want to kill anyone, but these were clearly very ruthless people and he couldn't just let them get away with this highly dangerous explosive resin...and with the baryon sweep relentlessly marching forwards, even knocking them out still (unfortunately) becomes a death sentence. A tough call to make, certainly...but that's part of the weight that comes with those captain's pips. I think you would enjoy any one of the shows you mentioned (B5, BSG, or SG-1)...folks may have their preferences but I think we would enjoy your reactions to any of them as well. I also think that having watched TNG would be a good basis for both of you to watch Voyager for the 1st time together. It was intended to be a throwback towards the more traditional exploration-type storylines that TNG and TOS had done so well...the series has its ups and downs (like all of them) but overall I think it's very good.

Matthew A. LeBlanc

"Wait, you allow things outside of this to take priority? You risk an episode not being able to come out as per schedule? How dare..." Yeah, I can't keep that fake anger up even while typing it out. Also, don't worry Kat, even the writers hadn't heard of baryon particles before this episode was being written either.

AJ

Agreed. DS9, while the black sheep of Star Trek, likely maintains the highest level of consistent quality over it's run than any other Trek series. Still, Voyager has my favorite cast of characters. And this coming from a TOS fan. It would be a satisfying watch for all involved.

Mark Chrisco

Babylon 5 please!! I really think you girls would like it.

Matthew Berry

If you are looking for recommendations other then trek, i would suggest either firefly which is only a season + a movie long and very lighthearted but full of fun characters or Battlestar Galactica which is more serious and philosophical but has many engaging story arcs plus some of the best scifi scenes in my opinion such as the Adama Maneuver scene which will make you jump for joy.

gobmob2000

I love that Picard went to Worf's quarters for weapons - it almost makes too much sense for a tv show!

Ben Chan

Star Trek Voyager i would strongly recommend if your not going to get into DS9. both of you will find that show very enjoyable, its going to be a whole new journey. In my opinion i believe your going to find that Stargate and Voyager are quite similar in alot of ways.

Bradley Whitcombe

I am a HUGE fan of BSG but if both of the girls are considering going into it blind I feel the need to echo what some others have already said...the show is generally dark in tone and their may be more than a few instances of triggering scenes. One storyline comes to mind in the second season the I 100% know kat will have trouble with. I am not saying this to dissuade them but I feel they should be aware. I am very supportive of them doing it as long as they know what it involves.

John Welch

I think that crawl ways might need to be metal for technical reasons. Knee pads would be a good solution to your knees okay

Colin 3of5

I think it more likely to be pleased, Think about it. Picard is his Captain and Worf is a warrior in his command. His Captain has discovered a threat to the ship, and thee hand phasers that he would normally have used are out of action. Using Worf's weapons to defend the ship in actual combat would be an honourable use of them. He was probably more p£@@÷# off that he wasn't there to fight at his side

Colin 3of5

Firefly or Babylon would be awesome.

Mark Ten

Why didnt Whorf throw shade at Picard for touching his personal weapons? I would think that's a Klingon no-no.

Mark Ten

Yeah, that’s why trypophobia has never been formally accepted as a phobia or other disorder by the medical community. It’s more of a biological revulsion than an actual fear.

Artemis Zeidman

There are actually hours-long videos you can play on YouTube that simulate the ambient sounds in engineering and on other parts of the Enterprise. Oh, and I never picked up on the fact that Picard sabotaged the collector. I always thought the component just fell off during their struggle.

Matthew Zeidman

Kat rushing to Jordi's defense... my hero!

Mark Ten

And numerous Saturn Awards as well.

Brad Barter

Commander Hitchinson, "call me Hutch, everybody does," his lifeless body was seen covered by a sheet on the floor during the first shot after the commercial break as the camera pans the room. Unlike Geordi who was shot in the shoulder he took the shot fully to the chest, plus as an alien phaser we don't know the settings they have. As Orton seemed to hate everybody there but especially Hutch he may have switched to a higher setting when he fired at Hutch.

Brad Barter

Not so much initially but then all 3 series had rocky and rough first couple seasons but DS9 had the best story ark overall.

Brad Barter

This episode is nothing but a silly ripoff of Die Hard.... and I absolutely love it.

The Crazed Spruce

Farscape is great, a good cast and a lot of fun. I'd definitely be a patron for that. However Babylon 5 still gets my vote, love it almost as much as TNG. I'd pass on Voyager.

Jay S

I'd recommend Farscape as the next scifi show. Highly underrated.

Adam Brown

I'm just gonna say it, DS9 is better than TNG and Voyager.

Adam Brown

Yeah that and like TNG the first season is meh. But then when it gets going it's just phenomenal

Jay S

I think my favorite thing about this episode was finding out that Stewart was always asking to be allowed to be part of the actions scenes and the only time they would grant his request is when the action takes place on the ship.

Kevin Bartelen

While I love The Expanse, I don't know if it would be a great show for two reactors who talk to each other while they watch a show, I mean, if they were asking what happened to Hutch, imagine what they would miss. I don't want this to come across as me throwing shade at the reactions, I love them, I just think there are shows where it works and shows where it might not...

Brendon Waldron

Hutch was killed. It was said in dialog as they were putting a cloth over the body. I guess maybe we could reason Geordi wasn't killed was that it didn't hit a vital organ. Fiction! Amirite lol

Jonathan Emery

If I had one recommendation for a sci-fi show to react to it would be The Expanse. I love Star Trek for the nostalgia, but The Expanse is the best sci-fi show. It's a bit more "realistic" sci-fi in that there is no shields, energy weapons, or artificial gravity. There is a lot of world building for the first few episodes so some people might find those a struggle to get through, but once it establishes itself it's a wild ride. It's not a show that holds your hand either. You really have to pay attention to what is on screen. They trust the viewer to figure it out on their own. Most people, including myself, miss a lot their first time watching. But even if it is confusing in some ways, it is still fun to watch. And it's even more fun to re-watch once you ultimately know what is going on and can spot all of the things you may have missed the first time.

Thontor

You're right that not every TNG or DW fan will automatically jump to the next show, but they'll make that up with fans of the next show coming on board. Most reactors who do this full time need the audience to basically pick the shows for them, and it's why they often have multiple shows coming out every day, but that's not the case here. If the next show ain't for you, it ain't for you, there's nothing wrong with that...

Brendon Waldron

DS9 is definitely peak Star Trek. It was so ahead of it's time with the serial storytelling

Thontor

Okay, so I would LOVE for you all to watch Voyager, I think you'd both dig it but I can see Katrina having an issue with some of the aliens. But there's definitely episodes I would love to watch you to react to (and some surprises I definitely don't want spoiled for you either). But I'm also totally cool if you wanna do Lower Decks first, I know you'd love that and there aren't that many spoilers for the other shows... at least nothing you couldn't reasonably guess. PLUS it'd be a great excuse for you to update your avatars to Lower Decks style, which you'd both look great in. Katrina could have the rolled sleeves like Mariner and O'Brien, Paula could have Crusher/T'ana's lab coat (and maybe Tendi's white booties), the butt mugs, all the fun stuff! I totally understand your decision to not run through all of DS9, and if that's the case, ain't no reason to wait to show Katrina the Tribbles episode, right? You could do what you do with TOS (and could do with Enterprise), basically let us pick a couple episodes for you to do in between seasons of shows or whenever you want a break, keep a little Star Trek going without being dependent on it or burning out on it. Especially if you do something liek Babylon 5 or Battlestar Galactica which are more heavy and dramatic, you could have something fun in your back pocket for a quick pick-me-up. I'd also suggest Farscape as a fun sci-fi show that's totally bonkers and weird, it's got the imagination of an animated show but executed live action with the help of the Jim Henson creature shop. Maybe, also, it's one season, but remembering how much Katrina liked the time-travelling Prof Rasmussen, you might experiment with Max Headroom. MAYBE you should just do "pilot season," watch the first episode of a bunch of these shows and see what you (and us Patreons) think. (I'll also point out, just so you know, that Stargate and Babylon 5 start with movies, and Battlestar Galactica starts out with 2 movie-length episodes).

Chris Neumann

VII, actually. But definitely easy mistake to make.

Chris Neumann

Tim Russ (Tuvok) also had auditioned for the role of Geordie and had a minor role in Stark Trek 6.

Henchman Twenty1

The reason Geordi survived and Hutch died is, I believe, kind of explained in the episode. Crusher said something about using Geordi's implants to reduce his pain receptors in his brain (or something like that). I'm guessing therefore that the weapon killed Hutch because of the pain sending him into shock. I won't lie, I am a big fan of DS9 and if you watched that show I would love it. However, I know you have said already that it's not going to happen any time soon, if at all. Voyager is not bad. If you decide to watch a different sci-fi show, Stargate is definitely great. It is a great sci-fi show with plenty of humour in there. It has lots of great episodic story ideas, but it does have the occasional 'clip show'. Unlike the TNG clip show though they generally have a storyline that progresses the overall story of the series. If you do decide to watch it, I would suggest that you watch the movie first. It isn't absolutely necessary, but it does open you up to a lot of what is being spoken about in the first episode of SG1.

Peter

If you really wanted to react to something out of the box I think you would enjoy the Robotech series. It came out in the late 80s and for us old folks (get off my lawn!!) it was our first introduction to anime.

Corum Hayes

You guys will love Babylon 5. The CG they used is dated, but the story is incredible.

Khedric Cash

I think you would both enjoy Voyager. Its a good show but the acting is sometimes not as good as TNG in my opinion. You might also consider The Orville, which began at first as a Star Trek parody but is also a good show in its own right.

Pranav Gulukota

Some honest feedback from a patreon sub. The price is a bit steep for only 1 show compared to others, but I think it's worth it and I enjoy the journey with you gals. But then TNG is one of my fave shows. If the next show is not Star Trek or a fave of mine I will probably bail and revert to Youtube. I think many think the same. That's the risk of hitching your wagon (main sources of income I would think) on 2 particular but popular shows. The first and most important criterium for choosing the next show should definitely be what you want to watch. But I guess on the business side hope you are aware that it is not a given that TNG or DW subs will just hop on to the next show just because it scifi. When the time comes you might want to do some polls or something, not to choose the next show, but to get some insight on what your audience would renew their subscription for.

Pickupthepieces76

Would be up for Voyager, think it is more similar to TNG which you would enjoy. Would advise against BSG just because there could be a lot of triggering parts. The only one that could interest me is Stargate, though I fear we would have the same damn debate later on when you get to the cross overs with Stargate Atlantis, that would be a long time in the future though. I had a similar opinion when I first watched star trek , I loved TNG and Voyager but wasn't really interested in DS9, I did later go back to DS9 and grew to love it, but would say it is perfectly fine to skip it and watch Voyager.

Darren Swinbank

Truly. Hard pass on that for me. Stopped after the 3rd season, came back and checked out a few later episodes and instantly regretted it.

Jay S

She was Gates McFadden's stunt double on TNG also.

Jarrod Wild

I guess us Star Trek fans just don't want to lose some of our favorite reactors. ( I mean I'm here for BSG), but I'm not a Stargate, Farscape, or Babylon 5. So I'd have to say goodbye. I really do think you ladies would love Voyager. I'm definitely here for it if you choose that route.

The Real NC Picker

I grew up on TNG, so it's the most nostalgic for me. DS9 I think is Star Trek at its best. But if I could watch only one Star Trek series for the rest of my life, it would be Voyager. Endlessly entertaining, and Captain Janeway kicks ass. Also, Tuvok is my favorite portrayal of a Vulcan in Star Trek.

Eric

TNG did a classic disaster movie episode a while back, and now they do "Die Hard on the Enterprise." And both were great episodes! I love it when shows do that sort of tribute-to-the-cassics episodes.

Keith Goodnight

The first two seasons are kinda rough. I know a couple of folks who were lifelong Trek fans who swore off the show due to several poor episodes. Like TNG it got much better by season three.

Henchman Twenty1

"A horse" "of course"....Mr. Ed reference at the end? lol. I liked this episode though the villains were very 1-dimensional, but seeing Picard do the Die Hard thing was great. Also, weird seeing Tuvok before he was Tuvok

Chris Lane- Venturi 3D

Believe it or not, but baryons are a real thing. They're one of the fundamental particles of quantum physics.

Jarrod Wild

Next week is going to be a really good reaction, I'm betting.

The Real NC Picker

They also didn't want the Klingon security chief there when the thieves took over. Looks bad if they overpower Worf.

The Real NC Picker

Yeah! This is a fun episode for me, though apparently my mom isn’t its biggest fan. I enjoy Picard solving problems! Hutch yes, was dead, and they acknowledged it by showing a blanket covered corpse for like a second- not be dry much to go on. I have a theory as to why he died when Geordi didn’t- Hutch was shot by a different guy than Geordi, and Geordi was shot first. So guy 1 removes the weapon, shoots on instinct while it’s on stun, guy two, panicking because of the escalation, has time to switch his gun to kill, and fires. Another note- I don’t think Kelsey was trying to say “I’m not responsible” when she said she wasn’t a terrorist. I think she fully doesn’t care about lives. I think she said it because Picard was trying to bargain with her, saying “take me, I’m more valuable to your organization” and Kelsey was saying, “no, you’re not, because I don’t have an agenda, I’m just selling this stuff, and I can’t sell you to them.” Thing number three- oh right, I completely forgot about the phobia and how Dax would constantly trigger that. That makes complete sense. Thing four- merely noting that no picture was edited into the video. Love your reactions! And will be excited to see what’s next after this, regardless of what it is.

Arek Schneyer

The flooring in the Jeffries tubs are actually rubber floor mats commonly used in restaurant kitchens to avoid slip and falls. I used to work in food service. Why they would add sound effects to make them sound as if they were metal is beyond me. It would do a number on the crew's knees if they were really metal!

Henchman Twenty1

I wouldn't call a fear of clusters of dots, holes, or bumps irrational. There are a lot of predator's with these qualities like snakes, cheetahs, leopards, and bee hives. You probably had relatives many generations back that lived near some of these predator's. Scientist's are starting to understand that fears are genetic or more aptly put the mechanisms in the brain is genetic. This isn't a new concept of course people have been aware of "nature vs nurture" for thousands of years. Anyways being able to instinctively identify and avoid these things can be a good trait to have, it really just means it's harder to deprogram. I also have a similar problem with different patterns but it isn't a fear issue, it happens when I am sick and I am looking at something like a popcorn ceiling and me thinking of that pattern will literally make me feel sicker and sicker but once I am done being sick it stops. So it is probably me noticing the pattern of being sick combined with me noticing a pattern outside of myself to distract myself being sick. I'm a pattern thinker by the way so I put a lot of thought into everything.

William Green

This is an interesting episode and it feels like the writers were given a little more lease than normal. I think the request by Worf to be excused is a subtle nod to his personal growth from the two-parter. Normally, the reception would be a matter of obligation. But, now Worf is like I don't have to go to represent my ship and crew.... my sanity is more important.

Christian Rennie

I'd be cool with the Gals reacting to Voyager.

Stephen Kronfeld

Spot the B5 character .

ian webster

Your gonna skip ds9 but you might watch Voyager instead? that kind of hurts my heart....

Mike

They showed Hutch's body covered with a purple blanket.
