My favorite Classic Who Doctor is Five. Castrovalva was a great first serial.

Dafydd

Nyssa and Tegan also started out with the 4th Doctor although they never met Romana and K9.

Dr Q Who

It is Vengeance. I reccomended the vast majority of the 6th Doctor stories during the vote and I remember that Vengeance won out.

Steve Combs

Oops, looks like the Classic Who Polls got caught up in the re-labelling of tiers, so It's not available to view anymore.

Firefly24601

If you go far enough back on Patreon, I think the poll results are still up. But it's a looooong ways back! :)

Firefly24601

I can't imagine any story other than Vengeance on Varos being voted as the 6th Doctor story.

Dan Crucy

On a related note, I can't remember what stories were voted on for each Doctor (is that list on Discord?), but speaking of anniversary stories (which 'Remembrance' KINDA is -- though 'Silver Nemesis' is the actual one) definitely think they should react to some multi-Doctor stories next year for the 60th, like 'The Three Doctors' or, even better, 'The Five Doctors' (NOT THE MIND PROBE!). 😀

Nicole Mazza

Yeah, I think the schoolboy uniform Turlough wears is supposed to mark him as young, but he definitely looks quite a bit older that Adric/Matthew!

Nicole Mazza

My very first doctor who story was Tom baker last story, so Peter Davidson is my doctor and this is my original Tardis team. funnily enough, I never actually seen this particular story because the local BBC channel in my country decided to skip it for some reason and just gave a quick recap in a voiceover before the next story started.

tal goren

They still have the 6th Doctor to react to, before the 7th Doctor.

Firefly24601

I absolutely loved this reaction! Your reactions are always amazing. Do you think before you react to Series 13 you could react to Remembrance of the Daleks, a 7th Doctor story?

The Adopted Whovian

The theme music is my favourite version of the Who theme, but that may be because I really started watching Doctor Who in the eighties. Oh, and if you think the performance of the Cybermen is odd, the portrayal of the Master in this era was very much that of a pantomime villian.

David Tomlinson

Okay, I’m going to put this out there, but does anybody else think that if our Gallifrey Gals were in this story Paula would be Nyssa and Katrina would be Tegan?

Lloyd B

I’ve always liked the dynamic of the multiple companions, and while occasionally one of them may be left as a spare wheel, I generally think it works well (I’m likely in the minority here). Adric is largely disliked by fans because he’s a whiny teenager, but I think that’s the point - he’s a precocious and very intelligent, but immature, while wanting to be treated like an adult. Pretty much like many other teenagers. And this group feels very much like a family unit, including with all the conflict one gets in families, while still looking out for each other. And I of course have a sense of national Aussie pride in Tegan (Janet Fielding), with her acerbic tongue and cynicism, always prepared to hold the Doctor to account. By the way, the dinosaur extinction event was a very new theory when this came out. It was first proposed in 1980, and it wasn’t confirmed that a meteor had hit the Earth in the Gulf of Mexico around the time dinosaurs became extinct until around 1990. So the writers are including some very cutting edge science by adding that information to the script.

Lloyd B

"It's a like a boom box!" It's a KABOOM box. Thank you. I'll be here all week. Also: This was a big reinvention of the Cybermen after not having been on screen for more than seven seasons. These were the Cybermen I knew as a kid as I saw most of 80s Doctor Who before seeing any 1st or Second Doctor Cybermen stories. They were fun villains but really had lost a lot of the body horror element of the Cybermen that the last Capaldi 2-parter brought back so effectively. And this episode was directed by Graham Harper who really brought a fast-paced, updated style to Who. He directed this and Peter Davison's final story which are both considered to be among the very best of Classic-era Who, and I believe is the only Classic-era director to have returned to direct modern Who!

Christopher Jones

Yeah, I don't know how Nyssa deals with her trauma -- not only did the Master kill her father (and all her people), but he walks around in the body of her dead father after that. Horrid!

Nicole Mazza

Speaking of costume hate, Colin Baker said the only good thing about his Sixth Doctor costume was that he couldn't see it since he was wearing it. He REALLY hated it. 😆

Nicole Mazza

There's Turlough. Though it's unclear what his actual age was, he was posing as school student. So I'm inclined to think he was meant to be between 16 and 18. Though I suppose that makes him as young as Adric at best, doesn't it. Turlough doesn't get enough love. Far less annoying than Adric, and Doctor Who's sub poster-child - always ending up in bondage or sweaty and passed out 🖤

Brendan Falvy

Yay, we're onto Peter Davison -- David Tennant's father-in-law. <3

Nicole Mazza

Maybe it's because I grew up on 80s Who, but I have such a HUGE soft spot for the 80s Cybermen -- esp David Banks, who plays the Cyber Leader in this one! <3

Nicole Mazza

There were a few men along with the Doctor over the years. But yeah, Adric is the youngest of the bunch and definitely isn't supposed to be an adult yet.

Bill

Is Adric the only "boy" companion there ever was? Usually the youngest is always a female, with the male companion being around to supply the "muscle".

Bob Hughes

Second episode (for me) with Katrina's updated hair. Freaking amazing. Hope you love it, cuz it's yours after all. 80's Who was... it went places. I love all the Who eras for different reasons. Pete brought a new energy after (My Doctor) Tom Baker. Good ol' Adric, Who's Wesley Crusher. Take that as you will because they bring out the same reactions in people. Tegan was an air hostess/flight attendant whose car broken down. She saw the Police Box and... Well, there we go.

Bill

I loved your reactions when the Cybermen were revealed, this is how we reacted at the time, as they managed to keep it secret, no social media and internet back then

Martyn Hill

I love watching the Gals react to the weirdness of the 80s Cybermen, masters of scenery-chewing. It's a very strange choice of performance, because the dialog continues to refer to them as having no emotions, but that's not remotely how they act. The Cybermen that appeared opposite Tom Baker in "Revenge of the Cybermen" had some hints of going in that direction, but nothing compared to these. They acted that way all through their 80s appearances, so somebody thought it was the way to take them.
