Time's Arrow, Part II, Gallifrey Gals Get Warped! S6Ep1

Comments

I would never presume to say that Picard is not the best captain. But there are things to like about all of them. I personally really like Archer and Sisko.

Ashley

I hate to love these two, or I love to hate them, I don't know which. I don't like it, but I enjoy it.

Dan Williams

Jack London (Bell Boy) is a real person in history, Google him!

BazT47

Interesting to think that, had Picard not stayed behind to look after Guinan, he wouldn’t have had an opportunity to question the Devidian and they would have inadvertently caused humanity’s destruction by firing on the planet without making the necessary modifications. +1 to Katrina for the O.G. Gallifrey Gals t-shirt.

I have been a fan of star trek for over thirty years. I have watched the Next Generation Series many times over. As I have watched your reactions to some of my favorite episodes I feel that in a way I am watching it for the first time though someone else's eyes. It has been time well spent. I am very much looking forward to your reactions to the episodes on season 6. It is one of the best seasons in stng. There is a small yet special request that I would ask of you for episode 20 and it would take only an additional 6 minutes. I will mention it again as we move forward. The inspiration of it was born from episode 19. Thank you for taking the time to do these reactions. It is a special gift to those who love the show. I have read a few times that people would be interested in DS9. I know we are not even in the final season of STNG however that is something that would be worth looking forward to.

Hard to say when I got into Trek. My early Teens, but after TNG had gone off the air. I don't even know what my first ever episode was, because I stumbled upon weekend TNG marathons when I'd visit my dad's, so I saw A LOT in one go, but I feel Time's Arrow was early on.

Nolan

Seems we got into it at the same time. Time's Arrow is literally the very first thing of TNG I ever saw, and totally by accident flipping through channels. It was LeVar that made me stop because I knew him from Reading Rainbow. Before that, I'd only seen TOS in reruns a couple times, so I was aware of Star Trek, but wasn't a fan until this episode of TNG.

trylikeafool

Also want to ask that you please include us in your viewing of the movies if you do them. At that point we'll have been with you for seven seasons and several years (I will be), and I'd feel like the journey is incomplete if we can't share that experience with you. As an FYI - I'm a YouTuber and also do reaction videos on Patreon (under another name), and I have "movie nights" with my patrons where I actually livestream the movie and we chat during it, so it's interactive. The movies are long, and we usually have a 5 minute intermission in the middle. Although, you don't have to worry about that if you're not live (which I wouldn't expect). As long as you edit, you can take as long of break as you want. Anyway - I just wanted to put my two cents in there, and I hope you consider it. I also hope you do the movies in order because they kind of build on each other in little ways. Thanks for the work you put in - I look forward to it every week.

trylikeafool

Enjoyed it! Time's Arrow is the very first episode of TNG that I saw as an 11 year-old flipping through channels one Saturday evening. Hooked me for life, so it has a special place in my heart.

trylikeafool

Very disappointing. Yes!

Sal Sanchez

That scene in the turbolift was one of the first bits of Star Trek I ever saw, so the ideas in that a SUPER foundational to my view of Trek. I never minded DS9 looking at them critically and seeing the cracks in those ideas, but they did so within the framework of those ideas. That the new shows threw all those ideas out, but try to pretend they didn't has been inctedibly frusterating to me. More than anything it's why I can't stand them and one of several reasons why I dropped new Trek like a sack of potatoes after 2 seasons of Discovery and 1 of Picard. People nowadays seem to prefer total cynicism and dourness that the world will never move beyond today, beyond the way we think and talk today, but I like Trek to be above that. Alas, 'tis no more.

Nolan

So glad to have TNG tuesdays back!! I know you mentioned being surprised at how close you are to being all the way through with this series but I really hope you watch the movies when you’re done with the episodes!

Brian Hakala

I agree. I was so excited for the Picard series and it was so disappointing to see them change that world so dramatically in order to appeal to the “wider audience”

Brian Hakala

I think ur right

Sal Sanchez

The more I rewatch TNG, the more I have come to see the Picard-Guinan relationship as this show’s equivalent to Spock-Kirk’s friendship. It has that same level of utter commitment to each other.

Kathy A

Glad TNG is back but I've never had a problem with the break between seasons so I'm also one of those people disappointed that there wasn't a third TOS episode, only because the episode I voted for came third. Only mad at the people that voted for Space Seed though, what a missed opportunity that was...

Brendon Waldron

While season 5 has some of my favourite episodes, season 6 has some of the most fun episodes, a couple of the best episodes, and one of the absolute WORST episodes. You'll know THAT one when you get to it.

The Crazed Spruce

It's still a pretty entertaining episode, you ask me, but it's probably the weakest of the season-ending cliffhangers.

The Crazed Spruce

I don't believe she's immortal, just very long lived. And her race didn't fight the Borg, they ran from them. She's also much younger, talks of her father and presumably hasn't had her people visited by the Borg yet. She is, quite frankly, in the naiveté of youth.

Nolan

Can you blame his incredulity though?

Shelly

I'm missing something...Guinan acted like she was a human who was mortal and didn't understand what was happening much better than Twain. How does she go from this character to an immortal alien whose race fought the Borg?

Shelly

Probably my least favorite episode. However, i want to point out that everything that Mark Twain came to realize in the turbo-lift was a perfect description of what Star Trek means to us all. And judging by Kats reactions, i believe she would be quite happy in that universe. This is the very thing "Star Trek: Discovery" and "Star Trek: Picard" never came to realize. Those shows left EVERYTHING Star Trek stood for in favor of curse words and colorful explosions.

Sal Sanchez

The Gals usually get flack for interrupting TNG reactions with TOS reactions. I'm kinda surprised they did two TOS reactions in a row!

Firefly24601

You'd think there'd be more visible wear and tear from the neck up!

Firefly24601

As sort of silly as the idea of Mark Twain on the Enterprise is, it's still a lot of fun! I also like to see Picard show some interest in an author like him, because sometimes his interest in things like Shakespeare, etc, can seem a little pretentious. Nice to see him appreciate a humorous, American author.

Joe Concepts

So Data is running around with a head thats 500 years older than the rest of him? I swear there's a joke in there somewhere, but I just cant think of it

Mark Ten

They keep saying that doing movie reactions is hard, and I'm not claiming that they are wrong, but there are tons of movie reactors on this platform, and YouTube. It's become quite popular and more folks join the ranks every day it seems. Some better than others. But if it's not their thing than so be it.

Henchman Twenty1

Is there some specific issue with the gals reacting to the movies? It's not like they're LOTR extended version length. They're just the equivalent of watching a two-part episode.

Raja

My guess is Space Seed may have soured them a bit from doing a 3rd TOS reaction this time around.

Raja

Oh my word, I was wracking my brain trying to place him. I knew it was a Trek thing, but couldn't place him. Was about to look him up.

Nolan

Clemens ask Deanna if they ever ran into Halley's Comet. The famous comet was in the night sky when he was born in 1835 and he allegedly predicted he would die when it returned 75 years later in 1910, which came true. I think we were actually seeing honest amusement by Marina to Jerry Hardin's portrayal of Clemens in the scene where they were walking down the Enterprise hallway.

Henchman Twenty1

The actor, Alexander Enberg, who played the young reporter talking to Clemens will be back to play a Vulcan Enterprise crew member in season 7 of TNG and play a similar Vulcan crew member in several episodes of Voyager. Although not canon, the actor says his two Vulcan characters are twins. He also does some voices for a couple of Trek video games.

Henchman Twenty1

Really hoping you guys get into DS9 and Voyager along with the films. With TNG s6, it's the perfect time to start DS9! They both ran together originally, so I would often watch TNG then DS9 back when they were airing. There are a couple of crossover episodes later on.

Brian Moore

Honestly, I thought we had another episode of TOS coming but I'm not gonna lie, more TNG is never a bad thing lol.

DarkAshtar

While Jack London was an advocate against animal cruelty, he also was also a white supremacist and a believer in Eugenics.

DarkAshtar

That’s insanely weird.

Andrew Hogan

When Twain leaves the transporter room he asks if they ever bumped into Halley's Comet. Twain was born during one of Halley's appearances, a year before his death in 1909 he commented "I came in with Halley's comet, it is coming again next year. The Almighty has said, no doubt 'Now these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.'" Sure enough April 21, 1910 the day after Halley's Perihelion Mark Twain died.

EricH86

I wouldn't have minded them reacting to the third place episode in the poll. I'm sure the gals would have liked it better than Space Seed.

Henchman Twenty1

Not sure if you noticed but season 5 was the only season with the Superman type streak of the main title sequence of Star Trek The Next Generation as this episode went back to the classic earlier version of the title sequence and will remain that way until the end of TNG.

Brad Barter

I really hope they continue into both Deep Space 9 and Voyager as the 90s had the best Trek for sure.

Brad Barter

Paramount+'s lack of subtitles 😢😢 Love the reactions though. Twain becoming less of a tool due to Troi's explaining things... *chef's kiss*

Bill

I would pay more for the Patreon if you watch DS9 and Voyager. Love your reactions!

Jonathan Alessi

This season will take us to Jan. 10th uninterrupted but I’m guessing early February with holiday breaks and anything else that could pop up.

Andrew Hogan

Are you guys watching ds9?

Ryan George

Some of my best friends are blueish... :) hehe

FalcorDragon

I would've liked to see a Journey to Babel reaction, but these are TNG reactions, the TOS is just sort of a fan bonus. I just hope no one was expecting some kind of massive Guinan revelations...

Joe Concepts

Oh wow, I thought we still had another week of TOS, but I'll admit to being pleased at this surprise. Yay!

fcast17

Season 6, let's goooo!!!
