I don’t run a reaction channel, so I wouldn’t know, but I don’t see how reacting to the movies would be a problem. You do TOS episodes between seasons, so why not just do TOS movies instead? If there are copyright issues with the movies that don’t happen for the episodes, then just post them in a watch-a-long format with the time code onscreen instead of the movie. I’d definitely be willing to sub to a higher tier for that. There’s NO ONE reacting to the Trek movies

Jobard

So... part of this comment aged like crap. Sigh. Crazy world.

Nolan

Yes please watch the movies

Brett Delbridge

Yeah, the whole fun of a first-timer reacting channel is to see your reactions as they happen. I remember getting really hyped up for your reaction when you'd find out Shades of Gray was a clip episode, and it sucked that Paula spoiled it. Even if you'd just fastforwarded through the parts you'd already seen, it would have been fun to watch. The movies aren't that long, and you clearly watch multiple episodes in a row at times. It wouldn't be too hard to watch one movie. And if you can't show the movie on screen as reactors, just do what other reactors do and have us sync it up with our own copy. There are lots of people who do review videos. And there are a lot of people who do very basic reactions. But only you guys seem to do noob + expert reactions, and make it seem entirely natural and not feigned or pretending to talk to an audience. Nor do you get off topic. I really, really want to see your reactions to the trilogy of 2-4 and 6 (which is kinda a coda). I'm curious if you'll buck the fan trends on the others. The TNG movies complete the arcs of the characters, so I'd love to see those, too. You can only react the first time to things once. And I really want to see it. Katrina's reactions are a delight.

Bluefox

I would even settle for a couple of the animated episodes.

Mark Chrisco

No urgency for you gals to watch the movies, but it would be greatly appreciated if you did reactions to some of them on the channel rather than on your own time and doing a post-review as Kat suggested. Each one is the equivalent of 2 regular episodes, so not a huge disruption to your schedule I'd think.

Raja

Truer words were never said, the world needs more people like you Sal o7

Chaos Surveyor

I’d love to see a Star Trek movies reaction after you’re done watching all of TNG! Even if you made a separate patreon for it I’d pay for the upgrade!

This really means a lot to me <3 - Kat

The first book I read on my own was a Star Trek Novel. I know it was one with Captain Pike as the Captain of the Enterprise, because I found that timeperiod fascinating and wanted to know about it. My Patreon nick (as well as most other places) is also taken from the name of a klingon ship in a Trek novel.

Red Claw

Come on, Katrina. We need the full scoop on your connection to the Soup Nazi.

Matthew Zeidman

Ugh! I so needed this tonight after the day. Thanks to you both!

Bill

Wasn't it sort of the first Chris Pine "Star Trek" movie that did that first?

Joe Concepts

Malachi Throne played Cdr. Mendez in the TOS two-parter, The Menagerie. He also did some voice-over work for TOS. Did u catch that they had to rush to Golondan Core? If u recall, thats where Geordie got stranded with Centurion Bahkra. Also, I just wanna add, I don't know what Katrina has been thru in her short life but her emotional reaction to these episodes tell me one thing, for sure. I want to let her know that her spirit is shining thru. She may not need to hear this but the world can make u bitter and angry. But as long as the world never tarnishes that spirit, it will shine like a diamond, Kiddo.

Sal Sanchez

I had forgotten that Star Trek 6 did come out after this episode. After that reminder, I do remember that the movie was maybe a month at most after the episode. The viewers did kind of get Spock's reference to those events because of the movie trailers. So to watch it just like the rest of us did, this show SHOULD be seen first. But the Gals' point that this is a TNG reaction show is understandable. I'm a big fan of both so I like to see TOS and movie reactions. Sneaking in a couple TOS episodes between seasons works well. Maybe another time it's a movie in between instead.

Joe Concepts

Yeah, it's not so much that the movies are needed FOR this episode... more that this episode undercuts the dramatic tension of a few of them. Yeah, they're still good. But the viseral tension is dampened cause there's now forsight. As for this, it's kinda... not bland per se, but a lot lower key than an INVASION attempt would be. Budget stuff aside, the resolution of the episode occurs because the Romulans didn't think to leave a guard in the room. And sadly, there are more than a few dangling plot threads here that remain hanging for a VERY long time, if they aren't tyed up oddly. And the less said about how more recent entries deal with such things, the better.

Nolan

I'm not sure I'd be interested in listening to too much of Aktuh and Melota, but I really would like to hear the full version of Melor Famagal :/

Ian Smith

As a way of honoring Gene Roddenberry the episode succeeded. Malachi Throne (Pardek) did voice work on the very first Star Trek pilot, Mark Lenard as Sarek, Kirk was name dropped and perhaps the Great Bird's greatest creations, Spock and Data had scenes together. However, not everyone was happy with the results. Michael Piller, who crafted the story said it was too slow and talky. He wished he had come up with a different story for Spock and the Enterprise crew. A reviewer at the time of broadcast put it this way. "Who wants to see Riker fencing with a ferengi when we could be watching Leonard Nimoy as Spock for the last time?" A bit of trivia: William Shatner was a bit miffed at not being invited to be in the episode too. The rest of the TNG cast were disappointed to not be in a scene with Spock.

Mark Chrisco

I believe this was the first time we get to hear Worf (Michael Dorn) sing, but not the last. That Ferengi song was... interesting, assuming it was a Ferengi song. He might have just liked some song from another race. If I were Riker, just after the Romulan warbird destroyed the three Vulcan transports, I would have been like, "Um, ya know, we woulda let you evacuate the people on those ships first BEFORE you destroyed them". So long as they didn't return to Romulus with the ships I think that's what mattered. Destroyed or confiscated by the Federation wasn't as important as all those lives lost.

Henchman Twenty1

And then Star Trek Picard makes all of this pointless....

Mike

There most likely were another 2 thousand troops on the cloaked warbird and who knows exactly how many more cloaked ships were also accompanying them but I agree that having a forced Romulan presence would affect trade and other implications but would have the full weight of Federation not just Star Fleet impeding them and the neutral zone border would be more heavily fortified to prevent more tropps and supplies from crossing. Something Sela should've learned already from her dealing with Data during the Klingon civil war.

Brad Barter

As I stated vaguely in part one the female 4 armed piano playing alien bar chick is one of my all time favourite Star Trek alien characters & wish they had her on DS9.

Brad Barter

That conversation between Spock and Data has some of my absolute favorite dialogue in the franchise. Two of the most iconic characters ever sharing thoughts on their contrasting relationships to humanity is peak Star Trek for me!

Glen

This was a fun episode, but one problem I had with it is that is doesn't really address the implications of Romulans trying to invade Vulcan, which would unquestionably mean outright war with the Federation. Also, conquering an entire planet with only 2000 troops sounds bizarrely small. To put it in perspective, over *156,000* Allied troops landed on the beaches at Normandy.

Neil McRae

Many fans, like myself, are eager to justify our years of accumulating useless Star Trek trivia by sharing it in the comments, but I would hope that none of us would get legitimately annoyed if you didn't watch the movies. I also started with Next Gen and then went backwards to watch what came before. It's not the end of the world.
