Into the Dalek, Gallifrey Gals Get Wibbly Wobbly! S8 Ep2

Well, I wen't back to see if you did indeed discuss Capaldi in that episode. I wasn't able to find the discussion, however Paula is wearing the exact same top so there is a kind of synergy there. :) https://imgur.com/a/5VRNpq9 (This is the moment when Karen Gillian first appeared, for context. :) )

Partway through this episode is when 12 and Clara became my favourite TARDIS team. Katrina has the same mug as I do, and looked like she was having a religious experience after her "jam"

One interesting thing in this story is that in the original, leaked version, Rusty went back up to the Dalek ship and basically blew him and all the Dalek ships up, like a suicide bomber. But the ending was changed for the broadcast episode and it's assumed Rusty survived at this point. I believe it was because of some real bombing in the UK news at the time, but I can't seem to find the details, anymore, but I do remember that. (And having seen all the leaked episodes myself, I remember that part.)

Nicole Mazza

its crazy how you guys already like 12 compared to 11. definitely going to hep make for some amazing reactions

Jonathan Andre

I wondered more about how Brian explained to Amy's parents why they'd never see her again... or Clara's parents...or...or...

Mark Ten

Ah, I love Twelve. Grumpy or not, he's always awesome. It seems to me that the best actors playing the Doctor are the ones who grew up on it and were fans. They act more like they understand the character when they're playing.

Scribbles

As Kat said, it was originally the Cybermen who said that, and the Borg were inspired by the Cybermen- not the other way round. People don't realise just how influential this show has been on popular culture.

Lloyd B

Yes, I was a bit miffed at their missing that line as well!

Lloyd B

and if I remember correctly, there was only one episode where he played more than one character

tal goren

Am I the only one who wonder how Clara explained to her family how she ended up in Glasgow, five minutes after she left their Christmas party?

tal goren

Paula's description of a Dalek being all "I am not cute, I am dangerous!!" reminds me of what cats must think when we pick them up and kiss them all the time. 😻

Can't wait to watch this! I love how sassy Rusty is at the end, with the mic drop moment calling the Doctor 'a good Dalek' and that lingering look. SO GOOD! If he had hair, he'd have flipped it. https://i.imgur.com/BH767py.gif

Nicole Mazza

I kept shouting, shh shh shh, when it was coming up. Ahhhhh you've missed it! ☹🤣

Daryl

True, and it takes this Doctor longer than the others in New Who to figure out who they really are. Maybe its part of having a new regeneration cycle. Most Doctors are fully established by the end of their introductory episode, but Capaldi is on a trip to discover who Who is.

Mark Ten

Very fun reaction, thanks as always, but it killed me that you were talking over one of the best lines in all of Who. As The Doctor was introducing Clara to the soldiers he says “she’s not my assistant.” She chimes in “I’m his carer”, with the ultimate reply “right, she cares so I don’t have to.” It seems important to the formation of this new pairing in general as well as the later slap.

Doug C

"Resistance is Futile" Funny hearing a Dalek say that after you only just watched The Best of Both Worlds recently.

Monty Magpie

I think what people keep forgetting is that the Doctor is an alien who only looks like we do. His attitudes and reactions are never going to be the same as ours and its in places like this where we see that most clearly. The Doctor doesnt stop to mourn, he moves on. It also is part of being a Time traveler - everyone is already dead... or still alive someplace from his perspective.. The next place he visits that person has not been born... or been dead for centuries... or is still alive. That is not a human perspective.

Mark Ten

"I'm his carer." "Yeah, she cares so I don't have to." Pretty much sums up the relationship between Clara and the Doctor at this stage. I really enjoy their dynamic this series. P.S. - Tim Tam's are made in heaven! Kat's expression with the sugar rush buzz was a joy to see. 😋👍

Lloyd B

There really were some great lines in this 👍🏼 p.s. I thought the slap was appropriate. At this stage Clara is not'just' a companion anymore and this Doctor is scared and looking to understand himself and be told when he makes mistakes.

Sufyaan Kazi

Paula nailed this in her reaction. Great episode, so much happening under the veneer, a good man goes to war ...

Sufyaan Kazi

I remember this episode being controversial because of Clara slapping the shit out of 12, which is understandable. Maybe I'm a bad person but I feel like if your best bud puts everyone in a life threatening situation it is not the WORST thing to give them a lil reality check slap. Regardless some great lines this episode: "Oh Clara Oswald do I really not pay you?" "You couldn't afford me." "I'm his carer." "Yeah she cares so I don't have to." "This is gun girl she has a gun and she's a girl." "Three weeks that's a long time?" "In Glasgow that's dead in a ditch.". Also the intro of Danny he um... exists :)))).

Valkyrie

Jeffrey Combs has played *eight* different characters across the various Star Trek shows. That man is a hard working actor! https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Jeffrey_Combs#:~:text=Character(s)%3A&text=Jeffrey%20Alan%20Combs%20(born%209,Shran%20on%20Star%20Trek%3A%20Enterprise.
