I liked the idea that he wasn't an imposing figure compared to modern Klingons. It implies that the stories about him are not entirely accurate, even exaggerated. So when they make an exact clone, his physical form doesn't match their expectations. But it's science, so what can they do? I think this casting choice was a clever way to foreshadow the truth of the matter.
