There is a big difference between campy sci-fi and horror sci-fi. Unfortunately, the umbrella term refers to both.

There’s something particularly visceral about the detail of having Riker’s arm amputated and reattached not *quite* right. Make me shudder.

I should have elaborated in my take that Riker being abducted is maybe the worst special effect in the show's run so far

I like the fact that apparently Geordis sensor enhancements drew their attention.
They looked into the void and something looked back.

The alien abduction phenomenon was reaching crescendo around this time and The X-Files would really capitalize on that a year on from the airdate. You couldn't move for chat shows with Budd Hopkins or John Mack or Stanton Friedman being interviewed at that time.
I think alien abduction has been underused in science fiction generally, at least in part because it was a fringe subject in the real world that serious scientists would pour scorn on, and presumably this would turn science fiction writers off the subject.

One of my faves in terms of keeping you guessing as to what's going on. Glad you both enjoyed it. An easy A.
