SIMPLE HESITATION

Tony B

Saw this on a big screen for the first time at an Aussie ST Convention, bootlegged and VHSey. From that opening, the crowd was electric, but the general sense of hesitation was ambient by the end...

Axis 77

I predict you will both think DS9 is a superior TV show to TNG... in the long run.

Kevin Watterson

Definitely. I had the same experience. I guess it is normal with any new show to take time to warm up to a new set of characters. But they are all really cool. Oh by the way Jadzia Dax is hot. lol

Brad Patterson

It took me a moment to get into DS9 but once I was hooked, I was HOOKED. One big thing I loved about it was the relationship between Sisko and his son. So many movies and shows depict black fathers poorly. I loved how tender Sisko can be with Jake or stern when necessary. Sisko is a good man.

Brad Patterson

Great. Now I want a burger and fries. Thanks alot.

Ian Ramsey

You are going to hate DS9 until suddenly you love it. I'm very excited to revisit that show as well as the rest of TNG. DS9 is easily my favorite Trek and I think that you will each enjoy it as much as or more than TNG in time. You might be a little slow to warm up to it, but it pays off in spades.

John Deadcorn

It's a bummer* DS9 only stood on it's own for a few episodes. 20/20 hindsight it was a bonehead move for Paramount to rush Voyager. DS9 probably would have done much better in the ratings had it had Trek to itself for a season. The show was really cooking at that point. *I mean relative. The show got 7 seasons and had good ratings.

Loot Narsbaar

DS9: New characters, uniforms, toys, ships, sets, species, ideals, directions.. TA: New favorites, new rants, new split on episodes, new "WHAT!" moments... Me: A new DS9 run thru-its been years, this time with friends and newer outlook on life and death.. Came for the meal. Stayed for dessert.

Badger

Referencing the chorus to Carly Simon's anticipation. Don't think too closely about the rest of the lyrics - I might bite my metaphorical nails on some eps, but it's not that fraught. 😁

North

“It has begun.” (followed by an “Excellent.”, featuring three of my Nineties loves: Star Trek, Mortal Kombat and The Simpsons)

Steven McDowell

Yeah, it wasn’t until Season 5(?) that my young, 12yo brain could even attempt to understand, care, then appreciate and adore what was coming across my screen. Geez, watching later seasons of DS9 AND VOY live on UPN was the Golden Freakin’ Age of Television.

Steven McDowell

“…and willing”

Steven McDowell

What is that reference? It’s scratching my brain, but I can’t pull it out.

Steven McDowell

I wonder if that feeling is because DS9 was more serialized.

Glenn Zigli

Oh man I so disagree with your assessment. My opinion is that we got to know a them in very interesting and unique ways. You really feel for all these characters. The writing was superb. Yes there were some irritating plot lines that I won’t specify here but man I loved these characters.

Glenn Zigli

DS9 was the primary reason for me to sign up to Patreon. Hoping that you'll hit your goal soon. IMHO three episodes a week are necessary to get through two parallel series in a reasonable time frame.

Fritz

I think my favorite episode of DS9 is the first one, S1E01. I think it sets up the series pretty well. Of course, I also like TNG's first episode(s).

Jovet

In some absurd and stupid ways, too. 🙄

Jovet

I never caught the DS9 fever. I didn't watch more than hardly any of it until years later because the non-exploratory nature didn't appeal to me. I've since seen a lot of it and my feelings haven't really changed. I'd rather watch TNG any day.

Jovet

DS9 gets a bad rap because it was semi-serialized in a time when not everybody was able to watch or record every week. I grew up in the 90s and my parents wouldn't spring for Tivo, and programming the VCR (or remembering to put a blank tape in it to record) was a pain in the neck DS9 was ahead of its time in that it thrives in the streaming/bingeing climate of today. It came out in a time when "I've seen every episode!" was a flex, now it's a requirement

Comrade of Chaos

So not going to say specific stuff as it could be spoilerish. But in general just remember that some things established in previous trek (particularly TNG) will continue but some things will be changed. It can be a bit annoying if you're rigid in your thinking but I think you guys will be fine.

Greg Quinn

Strongly agree. Get a mod to check comments.

Crankygrandma

It's makin' me wait

Collin Freeman

Watched this show while it was new. Can’t wait to see how you two door knobs react to it. But to be fair it’s not till season 3 when it really takes off.

Major Daniel H

I can't comment on season 7 without getting into details. So I just can't say anything beyond I respect your opinion.

Numinous2019

Spoilers are going to be CRITICAL for DS9. Entire multi-season story lines could be ruined with a single spoiler. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND you make it clear on every DS9 video that NO future references be made. New Patreons/YT commenters need to be made aware regularly of this.

Numinous2019

I definitely appreciate the first two seasons more on re-watches than I did the first time around.

Ian Ramsey

Been watching another ST reactor and have really been enjoying S1 of DS9... Very excited to see TA's reaction to the season.

Stevtrek

♫ Anticipation...an-ti-ci-paaaaation...! ♫

North

I used to feel that DS9 was not as exciting and interesting as Next Generation. As I have become Older I went back and watched and found it brilliant. Yes the good episodes are few and far between sometimes but I just enjoyed seeing these characters over and over again. I think you guys will enjoy.

Glenn Zigli

I think season 7 can make a case for being the best as well

Loot Narsbaar

I don't really think the first two seasons are bad. There are just so many meh episodes with a handful of great ones. It doesn't hit the lows that the first two seasons of TNG did.

Spencer Loften

I had the same experience. I sort of gave up of DS9 after season 2, which was probably a mistake. As I would watch an episode here and there after that, but without the total context of what was going on, I was a little lost, though I appreciated overall what they were doing.

Collin Freeman

Wow! I totally agree with everything you said. Great minds think alike.

Collin Freeman

I guess I have to on the record at some point about it. To me, after TNG, all future Trek contain individual episodes that I like but I never get into or feel anything about the series themselves. With TOS/TAS/TNG on random shuffle any ep can be watched, even the iffy ones, but DS9 and all that come after tend to need multiple hits of the randomize button to find the episode that you want to see again. That said, DS9 can really hit that ball over the fence, when they get it right, the episodes that standout do so in a big way.

Alan Thompson

*Whispers creepily into your left ear* "... my boddy is ready"

MrTickleTrunk

don't want to put any pressure - but sure do hope you enjoy the show!!

jan

Here... we... go

Marko

DS9 goes deeper into the characters than any series before.

Vikingdad

I predict that the ferengi will become one of your favorite aliens and episodes.

Reality Strikes

LET'S FUCKIN GO

Loot Narsbaar

The TNG Cast had a nickname for D S 9, you guys are pretty intuitive so I'm curious to see if at any point, deliberately or not, you feel it/ say it yourselves.

James Knight

At the edge of the final frontier - a new crew, a new mission, and new worlds to explore... What a wild ride to come 🖖

The Ninth Doctor

Deep Space Nine is the series that got me into Star Trek.

Brian Leonard

Season 1 has a definite scripting stamp of TNG. The DS9 characters were more engaging from the start though. Season 2 sheds the TNG feel, but doesn't really find its own footing. Season 3 to Season 6 are PRIME DS9.

Numinous2019

I watched this show alongside TNG when it first aired, and I was NOT feeling it for a good while. It was definitely an acquired taste I learned to love more and more as the show went on.

Ian Ramsey

Any characters you look forward to more than others? If you find more to connect with than the chief, you may make it to season 2. When this originally aired I couldn't do it.

Patrick Smith

I with you. I also recall reading an article (I can't recall publication), That season 2 was the favourite season of many of the creators of the show.

Tye W

I’m probably going to be an outlier on these takes as I love s1 and s2

Darren Seal

It’s been removed

Josh (Target Audience)

There are some solid episodes in season one, the pace is slower but it’s necessary to set up the characters and story arcs

General Trelane

Just a heads up there’s a pretty big spoiler in a patron take left on March 9th for season 6 ep 7, so tread carefully.

Matt Everkoul

And so it begins...
