The Day of the Jackal (1973)

The boyz discuss The Day of the Jackal.

The Day of the Jackal (1973)

Comments

The Arrow Blu-Ray looks amazing - highly recommend

Daniel

I thought it was implied that the Jackal does kill Gozzi the Gunsmith because at the end of the scene the Jackal says "Let me see one of those (bullets)". Gozzi hands him a bullet and the scene ends.

BS

This would be a great free ep. Awesome movie, all the Arnold shit, the Flower Moon story at the end and Stang flyin high off the turnbuckle on the five stars

Jon Smith

Hell yeah

Will See

I’ve used “Gets to look up young studs’ assholes” in conversation three times since hearing this. Thanks Mr. Stanger

C.Edwards

Anyone know how to access the discord?

TomBailey

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this but LaBelle and Jackal never getting the chance to speak/hear each other's voices only adds to the argument the English have of "well he could have been anyone"

Corluka

I watched The Day of the Jackal for the first time right after the episode and I really enjoyed it. I think this and David Fincher’s The Killer make for a nice double feature. Great episode and movie recommendation!

We might need to learn more about the author of the Conan Novelizations... https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8AVgX6V/

Mike Lacy

Loved the episode as always. But had the dissonant experience of thinking a ninja was going to somehow show up in this.

David D.

When I watched killers of the flower moon someone answered a phone call and had a 3 minute conversation a few rows behind me. Scorcese bros are weird I guess

Connor

He got booted from the Zombie Squad Discord LOL

Happy Veterans Day, Navy Doc

Pumpkin Pie Hair-Cutted Freak

Fourth Protocol and Odessa File are also pretty entertaining.

Dave McM

In life, I will frequently drop the acronym GOBN. Good Ole Boy Network

Rh

Whenever Stanger yells “wooo!” Into his mic, it never fails to make me think of the last 30 seconds of Heartache Tonight by the Eagles. Exact same “wooo!”. This is an excellent podcast and they were an excellent band.

Gabrus our climate change aware king - cumming in the toilet to save a tree

Frosty peaches

I was so embarrassed when everyone found out how big my dick was, too.

Hammerthrust Von Sexron

Best pod on the net💪🤘

john b

A day late and eight Canadian dollars short.. but oooweee this is a good ep.

JarredPalmer

Describe the ActionBoyz Rodgers: I've been debating whether the 30s or the 70s were more important to cinema. Gabrus: I've been cumming in the toilet Stanger: Taco Bell

Squirt Russell

Napoleonic Wars-vember must climax with Master and Commander.

Adam Lewis

I saw a guy wearing an ascot with a golf shirt a while ago. Everything went red.

Adam Lewis

Dat's how you keep dem guessing.

Adam Lewis

Stanger actually has a great voice.

John McClane

For an action thriller I found this tremendously relaxing to watch. It may be what the Boyz said about being overwhelmed by good filmmaking. There was also an enjoyable travelogue quality to it. Overall it was seemed to be a classier than usual Bond story.

Dave McM

Paul got to be careful during Q+As

Degrassi Knoll

The audiobook narration reminded me of the Olympic doc 16 Days of Glory and the editing of film felt like it too.

JamieQT

Watching Day of The Jackal. Never seen it before, but had watched the 90’s Bruce Willis when that was a USA channel staple. It’s so so different from the original. It’s like you guys said, the 70’s version feels like a Mann film. Everything comes off like the filmmakers did their homework on spy craft, and assassins. They wanted to make a story about a profession, and people who are meticulous about it. The remake is extremely generic, with unnecessary character reflecting moments like if they were Don Johnson’s Sonny Crockett, and you had soft music playing while they explain their hang ups. The only good bit is when Bruce Willis kills Jack Black, Alex Murphy style.

Don Knott Steiner

So I'm seeing How Did This Get Made Live this week. We're doing "No Retreat, No Surrender". Don't worry, I contacted security and warned them about Filmfan.

Dan Skisak

Haha "what language is he speaking master?" ....... "all of them-- none of them"

MB

I love the ActionBoyz because we can go from critical analysis of Cyboman to this absolute fucking classic in just a month.

ZacB_AZ

I love the Arnold audiobook bits. I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time.

Gregory Theilmann

Highly recommend director Fred Zinnemann’s 1948 film noir ‘Act of Violence’

Frank Kimball

Sorry it's more confusing Best of the Best than Bloodsport, but still a fun watch.

Jack McReynolds

“I’ll never go back there… “ 🤣 I’m like stanger… a gasp 😱

Thomas

One of my favorite endings of that era

Adam Ross

It has everything Mercs, idiosyncratic euro character actors, Tom Berenger rocking a bandana

Canadian Day Player

If you dig love letters to professional process and procedure, definitely check out the adaption they made a few years later of Forsyth’s The Dogs of War

Canadian Day Player

The audition story about spreading ass cheeks is disturbingly similar to my experience being abused as a young actor in NYC.

FiddlersGreenDay

I love In the Name of the Rose! Ron Perlman as Salvatore definitely has "next Cyboman/Lawnmower Man" potential as a reoccurring character.

John Arminio

I had to split this into two viewings. Not that I thought it was boring just started it way too late at night. The moment I restarted it, I was captivated till the end. P.S. if any ActionBoyz need some extra ninja in their November, then Prime has Fighting Black Kings up. If you ever wanted to see what The Kumite would look like if it was legitimate, then is as close as you'll get.

Jack McReynolds

I found this movie really dull (not that anyone asked) but this episode was still really entertaining anyway. Very happy that cybo-man, a character that stanger and rogers didn't really even see, is now 100% in the boyz lexicon

connie voltaire

Glad to hear Cybo man makes another appearence. Missin my boy Ranazeeez though

The Coin Guy

Michael Londale rules. He's the abbot in The Name of the Rose. Can't wait for the Boyz to do Medievaluary so they can cover it

MB

Oh man I had a funny crowd incident with opening night KotFM too. When I was leaving the screening I was walking to the subway and this person ran up to me shouting “excuse me! Excuse me!” So I already had my guard up thinking someone was gonna try and scam me and it’s someone with a heavy accent that asks “Did you just see the new Scorsese movie?” … “Yeah I thought it was great!” And he says “yeah I guess … I just wish it had a happy ending” and I was so dumbfounded I just said “yep well … that’s Marty for ya” and he looked at me like I had two heads and then kind of half jogged off. Very surreal

Conor S

Yeah, but they just trick you into doing weird stuff with your daughter that you thought was dead.

Michael Pemulis

the wild theater experience is my nightmare, that's how Freddy would kill me just be annoying

bloodflart

Someone needs to compile a list of the Arnold chapters. I feel like there’s a couple chapter 12’s

Sam Riebesehl (Reeb-Uh-Shell)

Thank you. It’s finally the time of year that doing it doesn’t look like peacocking.

Joe B

I believe in you. Go for it

The Buffmaster

Been hoping for 1940bruary so they finally cover Sgt York

AFistfulofGwildors

Is there an Old-Boyz Club tier yet?

Data Janitor

Zinneman Twists. That shit hits hard at 6:30am Monday morning. Thank you for your service.

Pod Ween Satan

Is this a safe space for me to confess I’d wear an ascot or cravat every damn day if I wasn’t a coward?

Joe B

rewatched The Jackal after this and I knew the Jack Black scene was awesome but I forgot just how badass it looked with practical effects

bloodflart

It’s the most important movie decade

Eugenio Triana

Judo Chop: The Movie

Sam Riebesehl (Reeb-Uh-Shell)

One of the best thrillers, and the perfect slow burn film 🙌

AMAZING!

I needed this today
