Patron Q/A!

Hey! 👋

We’re looking for listener questions! They can be about games, about not-games, the stuff we care about, or topics you usually hear on more typical game podcasts.

We’re considering making this a monthly bonus pod topic, but only if there’s interest! Drop as many questions as you want below 🫡🧐

Until again - Jake

What are 2-3 books and/or games you wish you could re-experience for the first time?

Not a question, per se, but I would love to hear more talk about Survivor - especially with Season 50 around the corner. More on brand, I would be curious to hear if you have anything to say about the way we as a culture treat anniversaries in gaming. 2026 is on paper a big year for anniversaries (Zelda and Metroid are in their 40th, Sonic's 35th, Pokemon's 30th - the list goes on) and I totally understand how and why people get excited at the idea of them (It's innately marketable, super easy to write about, satisfies a pattern-seeking part of our lizard brains, and depending on the series there is sometimes historical precedence for new releases aligning with these anniversaries). But I kinda just roll my eyes at the hubbub. Not to say that I don't also want shiny new things on a timely basis too. But so often these dates come and go with little fanfare, and I think that's broadly speaking a good thing! I would rather a game come out when it is fully baked, and I think most developers feel the same way. Do you two have any thoughts?

I’ve been thinking about how, when I was in elementary school, nothing was more important to me than playing and performing well in games of tag. Yet, that’s something that has hardly ever made its way back into my life as an adult. What is something that was important to y’all as a child, and is it something you still do today? Why or why not?

What does your perfect day look like?

Do you guys have any guilty pleasure games or series you are into that you know isn’t as good like junk food for example where you know it’s not good but you occasionally treat yourself to it or always have lying around For me it was some mobile/gatcha games at one point I would always have two or three on my phone just taking up storage, before most of them shot down. Remembering how I could feel the huge sign of relief my phone at the time having a quarter to even half of its storage full of em now free up back when I was in school to not have to carry something like my switch too

Do either of you have a reoccurring topic in stories that resonates with you the most? I understand that that's kind of vague, and anything could be resonant if you write it well enough, but, for instance, I know that I'm generally attached to stories about finding meaning in pointless circumstances. I was wondering if anything across media jumps out like that for either of you.

What are some quotes from SpongeBob you incorporate into your everyday life?

Why do you think certain games with writing that you might consider "bad" (i.e. Xenoblade 2, Pokémon B/W, or, personal choice, Tales of Vesperia) get to be some of the most popular entries in a series when there are games even within the same series that are much more competently written that don't get lauded as having great stories the same way? I feel like this question was poorly written too but hopefully you get what I'm trying ask lol

What are some favorite cross media stories? Games that became movies, books that became games. Etc.

Expectation vs. reality: if considering a description of your tastes otherwise just on-paper, what’s the last piece of media you were really “surprised” you enjoyed, and the other way around, that you were “surprised” you didn’t enjoy, and why? Opinions on those books we consider “classics” these days. Which ones are most worth revisiting, and are there any older books underlooked as a “classic” that more people should know about? Favorite video game songs / soundtracks? What is one question you wish someone had asked about, but wasn’t, and what is the answer to that question?
