My grandma went and gathered a feast for us tonight, all of her best dishes, cooking for three hours straight. My uncle and his family came as well and now theyΒre all in the living room playing mahjong like itΒs family tradition, each one of them muttering Βwe wonΒt get to play together for several yearsΒ and maybe, an unspoken: never again. Partings are always bitter and harsh to the heart, especially with my grandparents tipping further on the scale of time. We talk about old times and years before, of our brief gatherings and long partings and take comfort in the fact that everyone still remembers vividly the warmth of family.
