OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH S2 E5 - UNCUT

Comments

Why did you stop recapping Our Flag Means Death? I love all your stuff, but The Pirate Boys are my favorite.

Memo

Agreed!!!

Yes loving the redemption arc for Izzy. And the proposal. So many good bits in this episode. I can't wait to see your reactions to the next episode!

Alvie

In its weirdness, loving in and great again to watch with you!!

Naava

It’s almost been a month since last upload of Young Royals 💙💜. Please can we have a new episode? 🙏🏻

I love the parallel to the first "you wear fine things well" scene. Here they are, alone on a moonlit night once again, talking about fine red fabrics, and yet there are differences: the moon is no longer fairy tale-full. They're no longer trying to hide their true feelings. This isn't the flush of first love, the uncertainty of each other and their own feelings. They both know. Ed knows Stede loves him, even if he won't yet let him say it. Stede knows Ed wants to kiss him, just as much as he finally knows and accepts that he himself wants to be kissed. It's still romantic, but it's also real. So many little details stand out to me. Ed wiggling his shoulders before the kiss, as if to purposefully ring his cat bell so that Stede will know this kiss is coming, unlike the surprise of their first. Ed understanding himself enough to set a boundary that he wants to take it slow, and Stede instantly respecting that. The idea that there is room in their lives for Stede to have a pirate adventure while Ed learns the calm art of fishing, each of them getting what they want before they come back together at the end to share their days with each other. And I haven't even talked about Lucius and Pete and the matelotage proposal or Izzy finally coming into his own this season! What a great episode. (And because I can't not say it: I can't believe this show managed to turn Ed from a leather daddy into a submissive and breedable catboy, but here we are. What a time to be alive.)

You should react to Bodies on Netflix. Great series with great surprising queer storyline

With all the depression we've been having with Fellow Travelers, it's so great to get back to this funny, lovely show. Everyone seems to more or less be in a good place. Also, Alex, I agree with Josh. You should put on the full pirate regalia, at least when you get to the finale! It'll be fun!!

Chris Metzger

What a great episode and reaction guys! I loved the whole thing but when Josh the Proper“Dominate” British guy says (I’m paraphrasing) “ if you wouldn’t mind, please go over there and please get undressed” just made me chuckle.

Diane Furlong

Loved it ☺️ Seeing Alex going from „I hate Izzy“ to „I love him!“ within 1 episode is golden! Also: I hope you guys remember to watch the end credit scenes!

Perfect thing to watch during my morning run, now that it's winter and I'm stuck on the treadmill. I really enjoy this episode, especially Lucius's bits with Black Pete and Izzy as he explores different ways to try and move forward in life.

Rowan Cannell

👀...I see what you did there!😄

HM Garth

Did Josh break up a cat fight?

Michaela Morávková

The little thumb war at the end was improvised! I like this episode a lot - like you said, it's a welcome break where the characters spend a day healing and just... Being. It's nice. Feels good.

Loved it as always! The scenes between Lucius and Izzy re: moving on are some of my favourite writing. There's something to be said about there being no such thing as 'justice' if you've been hurt the way they have been, or arguably, many queer people have been in society. Lucius inflicting what Ed did never resolved the issue. True justice cannot be achieved, so Izzy decides that what matters more than justice is finding a way forward, which ties into the shark so beautifully! A shark will suffocate if it stops swimming/moving, therefore 'not moving on is worse'. Dying while holding on to this grudge is worse. Remaining in this state of unrequited love with blackbeard will hurt worse than moving on, even if that hurts too.

Thanks for the upload, something to watch tonight.

Good Morning, I’ll be back to watch once my eyes are open more (it’s just 5:45AM here)
