HEART BREAK HIGH - THE SERIES FINALE!

Comments

Instead of uncut, maybe unedited?

Jennifer Cooper

they work together

Mickey Ross

just wanna say that none of those boys are cash’s friends btw

Mickey Ross

We do need to challenge the system around violence especially towards woman, as statically it shows the extremely low reporting of these incidents & attacks

Gina Lipkin

Women can often to made to feel some kind of responsibility and blame for what happened to them when they have nothing to do with the attackers behaviour and actions and are unnecessarily questioned in authorities

Gina Lipkin

It may have been the only area she felt any control over in her life

Gina Lipkin

You never recover from these traumatic assists, so glad Harper could confide in her friend and get supported and understood, talking helps healing

Gina Lipkin

Acknowledged as individuals and not as labels

Gina Lipkin

It is an important issue to be raised openly and discussed and educating about intimation and violence towards women and the lack of support from authorities, there has been a great lack in being seen and heard, acknowledged, understood and respected when a woman has been violated and assaulted, thank you for your efforts to look at the perspective from Harper's experience and realize just how much this needs to be addressed and dealt with seriously x

Gina Lipkin

Australian gov stats, which aren't dissimilar to other western countries: 1 in 5 women experience sexual violence and understand implicitly Harper's feelings waking up in that car. 97% of offenders are male. 80% of offenders are known to the victim. The younger the female, the more at risk of being a victim. Only 20% of victims have visible injuries. 80% of victims experience long term effects. It's rapidly increasing as a crime. It's the most underreported crime type. Most reported assaults are ones where the offender was a stranger (20% of offenders). 92% don't report to police because shame, embarrassment, won't be believed or it's 'just something women have to deal with' (because that's how its always been). Only 8% report to police. Of those, only 50% result in an arrest. Of those, 80% go to trial. Of those, 60% result in conviction. So, only 0.25% of sexual assaults result in justice. The sexual violence offenders in 99.75% of instances remain on the streets. Ergo, society fails women. Daily.

I a huge thank you for those amazing 8 episodes of Heart Break High !!! Watching the series with you two was an absolute blast. I laughed, had a great time, and even got a bit emotional at times. Your commentary was not only spot-on but also incredibly enlightening. I loved the fact that you both often saw things differently, offering fresh perspectives on the same show. I can hardly wait to see what series you'll be diving into next! 🤩

Catherine

Our Flag Means Death season two is out! I have been putting off starting it, hoping it was the next show reaction.

Nina

I think your awareness and articulation of the experiences you can’t possibly relate to are as, if not more, important as your reflections on those you can. Thanks guys. This was actually really gorgeous to watch with you x

Jacqui Chesterton

Can you please continue with Young Royals season 2 uncut reactions 🫶🏻? Did you guys see Young Royals season 3 teaser today 🥹?

Marstrand

And turn your notifications off! (I bet it was Alex 😂)

Suze

And total rebirth

Suze

That book is so powerful. I listened to it narrated by the author on audible and it made me cry so many times.

Suze

I agree. I also think she started it at the air freshener because that’s what she could see when she was trapped between the two men. It was a really powerful moment when she got to destroy the power they held over her.

Suze

Thank you for acknowledging that as men you don’t know what it’s like to be in the situation Harper was in, where she knows her word means nothing. Too many men brush over the lived experience of women and the constant fear that male privilege erases.

Suze

Thank you Alex for always bringing grace and understanding to the characters and situations. ❤️

Rachel

As someone who’s reported a crime… not like that but along similar lines… the process of being a victim going through the court system was worse for me than the actual abuse. I’d never tell another person not to report an assault… but it was hands down the worst experience of my life. Not just the year long process leading up to trial, but standing up there reliving every detail to have a cross examiner try to tear holes in my “story” and for the judge to rule that my word wasn’t enough to convict a person…. Yeah I will not be going through that again.

the last episode certainly had a darker tone to it than the rest of the season - but i think that'd been eluded to from the very beginning. thanks for the reactions to the season - really enjoyed watching with you and hearing your commentary. please, don't let this show reflect badly on australia. the show takes on serious issues which are existent in any society, but definitely don't paint us all with the same brush. "vanish into thin air" isn't an australian saying - came from shakespeare (loosely). i really like the ship name of darren and cash being "da$h" as opposed to "carren." really loved the scene with darren and their dad in this episode, along with ca$h cringely running into the classroom while running from the cops to confess his undying love for darren. these moments along with some of the moments between amerie and harper after the initial carnage helped lift the overall feeling of the episode. can't wait to see what you delve into next!

LM-Entertainment Australia

About the scene with the lighter - I had a feeling that she wanted to erase the fear of that car by getting in there with the lighter. She's been carrying it for safety ever since that night.

Natalia Karyaka

Oh I'm familiar with that case and believe me every cell in my body seethes anger over it. Disgusting judge. The whole Russell Brand thing going on here highlights this too. So many men in comment sections "why don't they tell the police. Its a legal issue!" THIS IS WHY.

Jennifer Fell

Yes, similar stats in US. The book “Know My Name” by Chanel Miller is a brilliant non-fiction that demonstrates this so well. It is authors story of being assaulted by the Sanford swimmer. She was unconscious and he was caught in the act outside by two Sweds on bikes who restrained him and called the cops. She got crucified in court and he got a slap on wrist essentially bc the judge didn’t feel his whole life should be ruined bc of one “mistake” 😳😡 Even with all the evidence it is still viewed more as the females fault for not preventing it than the predators fault for behaving that way

Samm Daugherty

Gosh, even rewatching this episode with you still gave me chills and I had tears. As a female, Harper’s fear in that car outnumbered by 4 men is palpable. Sexual assault against women is still too common. How often females think about the possibility of an assault or change our behaviors out of fear of one is insane. While Harper’s choices after this hurt Amerie, the trauma she endured with no one there to help her process it, is just heartbreaking. BTW- The text you missed at the festival was from her father and he was texting about the wolf if I recall. He has a drug problem and when he does drugs he seemingly hallucinates which is why she wanted him to stay home and drink in the last episode and why he asks for money before the festival. Im so curious if the next season of Heartbreak High will have one mystery like this season that carries through the season bc that is an interesting twist on a teenage drama.

Samm Daugherty

There is also a history of women who are deemed troublesome, traitorous or 'whores' having their hair shorn as punishment. So it could also be a way to punish herself.

Rosie Dickinson

Wow, what an episode. Poor harper, that was so dark. Brill ending. Very empowering to watch. Darren and Ca$h love them so much. Can’t wait for season 2

Clash

For a series that has been mainly fun, informative, and lighthearted, it could also, at times, be deep, and sometimes a bit cringe, this finale was another level. Getting to finally see what has been plaguing Harper was dark, and sad, and eventually empowering. I agree with you both, though, not top tier, but good enough that I'll be back for season 2. It'll be interesting to see what that involves.

Chris Metzger

Loved this! You two crack me up. I’m probably as close to Nan’s age as I am to yours, but I love this show.

Jonathan Day

I can’t wait for season 2 !

Dd44 🩷💜💙

I don’t think anyone used labels in this series. People just got together, and everyone else accepted that.

Kim Engel

Didnt watch it yet but already happy with the cover picture. I ship Darren and Cash so much. Hoping for a happy ending for these 2

The Tommo Way

Sheesh!!! Thanks Alex and Josh! I didn’t think that I’d follow through with this Series. You helped me through.

Diane Furlong

Your reactions to this series is amazing 😘 thank you so much

Tina Stellato

In the uk less than 3% of reported SAs/R*pes lead to criminal charges. Only around 1% result in conviction. It's the one crime where the victim is subject to the same and if not more judgement than the perpetrator. I suspect, like Harper, most victims are very aware of those stats and are hence reluctant to report - I know several people who have been through similar and would agree. The trauma of going to report and then be essentially tried in court as a victim just doubles the trauma. These crimes are also thought to be vastly under reported. All of Harpers actions that followed have to be seen through the lens of that night and the trauma she endured. I loved this show and I'm so glad it got renewed. Fingers crossed for many more series.

Jennifer Fell

This last episode was rough!

Laura Ibarra

So with Harper’s hair, I bet it was the obvious him grabbing at her hair- but as a woman who has been the target of unwanted attention (not nearly as violent of a situation as this) I bet it was also this- there’s a feeling of wanting to become as undesirable as possible. You almost blame yourself for wanting to look nice- and that suddenly looking scary or “ugly” will be some protection.

Adrienne Gosselin

Looking forward to watching this, this evening. Have loved researching this show and your recations 😀
