😤 LET’S ARGUE! 😤 The FIRST Album You'd Show Someone Who's NEVER Heard Music Before

Thank you so much for all your support this month! Yesterday in light of the new Mr Beast vid, there was a post on our sub asking what would be the first album you'd show someone who has never heard music before. I think that topic could lead to an interesting episode here, so what is the one album you would pick and WHY (please explain your thought process)? Let's go!

If play them Frederic Chopin :)

Their five album run was astonishing in the 90’s. Obviously preference is preference, and Anthony is more than entitled to his own. But his claim that PJ ruined music is baffling when you consider all of the quality acts that they inspired. I listed barely a fifth of the ones that I personally know about.

Machine Gun Philly

Anthony notoriously hates PJ but I'm with you though I rate any PJ '90s album above Ten

Hendrix

Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes. I feel like there's a gentle nature to this record that's ideal for easing someone into music who's never experienced it before. A first experience with music can't be with an album that's too edgy or harsh. The sound on the fleet foxes debut is timeless but warm and comforting. Listening to to White Winter Hymnal is like drinking warm mulled wine on a cold winter night.

Hendrix

Probably Pet Sounds? I have no idea why, but I feel like it would be a great first album to listen to!

Jack Bayley

Ten by Pearl Jam. They’d hear pure arena rock, without a hint of sexism, hedonism and.. yes, some mumbling. Then I’d show them the music it influenced, including luminaries like Amy Winehouse, Corey Taylor, Robin Pecknold, Julian Casblancas, the White Stripes and Chester Bennington.. and yes, the guy from Creed.

I belive Discovery by Daft Punk would be the best album for a few reasons. Its infectious dance energy is instantaneous (show anyone One More Time to and their head will immediately start bopping), and if high energy is not their thing, this album also offers a myriad of moods and atmospheres (Veridis Quo, Something About Us) that can better serve their emotional needs. Additionally, the album's varied blend of styles and influences coupled with the rich and detailed production is bound to leave the virgin listener blown away. Finally, Daft Punk's robot aestheic would only further titillate the listener, the possibilities of human creativity and ingenuity on full display (or rather, behind two "epic" helmets).

Blues by Jimi Hendrix or The Wall by Pink Floyd. My father would listen to this album with me. This experience really showed me the value of music. I would hope these albums would inspire interest in music in general

Hmmm I'd have to say We Are by Jon Batiste. Very positive and uplifting Album from an artist you can Tell is always putting 110% into His music or shows what music can sound like when you absolutely love every step of the music process

Paul Simon- Graceland A wonderful marriage of cultures, and just a damn jubilee of sounds and ideas. Anything Paul Simon could work here though. He just exemplifies the kinda attitude I think more people should have in life

Honestly something like Ed Sheeran’s “+” or something very singer songwriter like that. A bit basic and even bland in some parts but would be a easy gateway for someone who has NEVER heard music. Start them off with something simple and easy to digest. You wouldn’t show someone who never saw a movie before something that requires a lot of focus and lasts 4 hours. Same goes for an album

Sgt Pepper would be a delight to watch someone experience as their first piece of music. So colorful and at times introspective I feel it would be a great introduction to the vastness and possibility of music

Andrew Shaktah

My earliest memory of Music was Pearl Jam's Ten in the car with dad, its his favourite band.

Sam Bird

Technically an album, 2manydj's As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt.2 would be my choice, a mix of songs from past to... Well... 2003. Has many genres and artists from Dolly Parton to Basement Jaxx with the occasional mash up before it was hated. It opened my ears when I first heard it to music genres I had never really listened to before and I owe it so much for that.

Any nav album. It’s like starting them on easy mode. Death grips would be expert mode obviously

Matthew Rhoney

Tegan and Sara - Sainthood, literally the perfect album, the instrumentation is perfect, the lyrics are fantastic, the production is immaculate. Easily my favourite album of all time and something I’d be glad to introduce someone to music with.

Lucy Likes Tegan and Sara

Chocolate and Cheese by Ween there's so much variety, there is bound to be something you like on there.

Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Version. Imagine if this was the first impression of music someone got…

Squanto

any shit from Mozart; at least thats how it was for me

A

Idk as a kid the first music I connected with remembering to look into them were the eminem and nirvana which ain’t really positive 😂

Zach S

I feel like Plastic Beach would be fantastic for a first listen. It’s relatively easy to get into it and it showcases a wide range of sounds/artists/influences

So basically we're talking little kids who are just coming of age to remember music and trying to get them set up for life. The Go! Team's Thunder, Lightning, Strike album is a good one for them in this manner as it's not dark or depressing. Just fun, upbeat, catchy whilst still creative and maintaining a unique and experimental sound.

Off the wall - I genuinely think this is the perfect first album, nothing is too offensive on there and it’s actually hard to hate it. I don’t think it’s going to box the person into one genre either, I feel like that album leaves a lot of doors open where as if you pick an album that is extremely pushing you in one direction you won’t have those opportunities

kick iii arca 😍

I think Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road would be a good choice for someone who has never heard music before. It is an impressive album, with diverse instrumentation, and songs that cover a range of emotions and intensity, including the melancholic 'Candle in the Wind', and the intense 'Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting.' I think it would be important to show someone that music can make you feel sad or happy or excited!
