It's been another year, and I finally finished this level, so it’s time to release the kraken!
About this game, you can find more in the trailer above.
Currently the game supports English/Japanese/Simplified Chinese/Traditional Chinese, because that’s the only languages I know, and special thanks to Miu(miu_size) and 微分可能多様体(bibun_kanou) helping me fix up the dialogue lines and localizations. And thanks to the voice actor 凪雲ゆう(seven_ven7) for providing a great voice for the character.
This is a gameplay test level, which is about a junior high school girl who shrinks her Senpai to the 1/200 size(less than 1cm), and asks him to climb on her toes. It was a section of a chapter, but I decided to release it now. I hope I can bring the size-related games to a new level.
There is currently no VR mode plan due to which I couldn't solve the performance issue in the collision system. And there are still A LOT of bugs with the climb system. I'm trying to solve them one by one, but I don’t have enough time though…If you have any issues about the game, feel free to send me a message.
About the pervious Gym Demo:
I couldn’t finish that level since there is no gameplay design in it, and it is just a test of my animation tools (I made all the animation directly in the Engine with a control rig tool). And there is a problem with that level design: narrative-driven sounds good, but all the gameplay was based on A LOT of animation, which I don’t really have enough time making all these hand made animation, well I also not really good at it. It's not worth it for me to spend months creating a few seconds of animation. So I changed the plan to use more procedurally generated animations, focusing more on the player's freedom and gameplay design, which can save time spent on animation. Although it is not complete, I still packaged it into the demo. And thanks to ChaoticHelleaven(CHelleaven) for the English dubbing for my test level, also thanks to 琳Lin(adasd72681569) help me to adjust the lines.
After the Christmas of 2021, the release of the first video, I'm in a period of confusion. It took me a long time to think about what kind of game I want to make, and what kind of game I can make. I actually made a size-fetish game a very long time ago. I made The Playing Room back in 2014 with the UDK engine, and due to the limitation of the engine and the limitation of me, I can’t really make another game. But now I think I can try to make what’s in my mind, and bring it to reality.
Now as technology advances, making games becomes easier and easier. I can buy any assets I want from the internet, and there is help with AI. Actually the game title “After School Shrinking Adventure” is named by ChatGPT, and in the previous video, my character’s voice was generated by VOICEPEAK. The translation was with help from DeepL. And the foot texture, I use AI to upscale it up to 65535*65535 and import it as a virtual texture, that’s a crazy resolution for a video game, but it's worth it.
Future plan:
Add a free mode in the classroom with the girl inside, so you can feel free walking in the gigantic classroom with 1/200 size, but there is no additional story in it.
Upgrading to UE 5.1, I’m currently working on UE 4.27 version, because at the time I started making this game, UE5 was still in Early Access version, too many bugs to use. And there are a lot of bugs in the locomotion system, so I decided to remake that system, and bring more UE5 features into my workflow. So after the free mode update, there could be a long time I couldn’t release any new update.
About Localization:
If you are interested in localizing your language to this game, you can find the localization files in the game folder “AfterSchool\Content\Localization\Files”, those are the PO files of all the text used in the game. The dialogues were written in Japanese, and others were in English. You can make a copy and edit them with poEdit or other localization editing software. Then you can send the translated files with language name back to me and I’ll merge the files into the game~
