Schedule Update + Blackmagic immersive camera

I was hoping to catch up with the schedule given the new stupid long render technique but I ended up getting sick for four days and couldn’t even look at the screen.

I am very grateful for everyone that has decided to keep supporting during this bumpy month. With all these setbacks, I wanted to provide an updated short term release schedule (See below). Rome should be released this Sunday late night.

Your monthly support is not for nothing. Although I still haven’t been able to pay myself for this work in the last three years, we are officially at break even for global traveling expenses.

And even though the channel is still at risk of going bankrupt if to many people leave in a month, I know I must push further.

I have successfully attained a loan for the blackmagic immersive 16k 90fps 180 camera coming out in the fall!!! 2 hours = 8 tb 🤤

I’m thinking it will cost about $35k USD with necessary accessories. Sure I could have really used that on a car that was under 20 years old lol, but I know now more than ever that it is up to me to continue creating and defining a new genre of VR experiences.

I want better for the community. I want exciting immersive experiences like those I create. I don’t want what Apple is producing. Maybe some people like that style of immersive experience. I am immediately bored with them. Not very immersive, very short (5-10 mins long), and with a voice over narration that talks over the entirety of experience.

(These 16k 3D 180 90fps experiences will be playable on Vision Pro only, but they will supersampled to 8k 3D 180 60fps so that Meta Quest users can still enjoy them. This supersampling will increase Meta Quest quality even further than ever And they will be ready to enjoy in 16k when Meta Quest 4 or beyond release :D )

Short term schedule:

Sept 22 - Rome

October 8 - Firenze (Florence)

Oct 24 - Venice

Nov 23 - Dia de los Muertos, Mexico City

Dec 13 - Annual Slice of life VR Christmas lights special - Paris, France

Dec 31 - Zion National Park (The Narrows, Angels Landing etc)

(Tokyo Part 5 had server issues, it should be up again by tonight)

Comments

Yes that is the last 2 mins of part 1. It kept failing render so I had to split it in 17 mins and 2 mins. I’ll get them joined into one part when I get the time to render it :)

Is "Copy of (8-2024)(2_5)FlorenceItaly_GiottosTower_FullCityTour_180_3D" only suppose to be 2.27GB in size?

Such a detailed comment, thank you for this. Wow that rumor on price is alot more than I expected. I guess it is going to depend on how many subscribers I can retain by the time it comes out to see if I can afford that price point. I heard another rumor from IBC that it is in early beta and isn't being released until 2025 so fortunately I still have time. Its really nice to hear all the reasons that you feel my content is superior to Explore POV. "Your existing pipeline and your knowledge of how to color correct really makes you a leader in this space" ". . .engaging, interesting, and curated in a way that makes us excited for your next video that explores a unique locale or event." This definitely made my day reading these comments. I wish more of the general public could see with their own eyes just how good my quality is, but when I personally write reddit posts on Vision Pro or Meta Quest telling people how good it looks, I feel like it comes off as "Oh this guy is just trying to sell me something, it cant possibly be that good". I wonder if I could encourage some type of out-reach program with my existing supporters writing posts/comments to get the word out there more. Nothing paid of course, I hate paid promotion, just asking people to post if they enjoy my content you know. I can actually already upscale to 16k just like Explore POV is doing, so that is always an option. I plan on having a 16k upscaled option available on the streaming AVP app when it comes out. But as you have stated, it doesnt really add that much to the experience. Fortunately, I will soon have all my content available in streaming form on that new AVP app coming soon. They keep pushing back the expected release date but rest assured it is coming very soon. Hoping within the next month, but almost certainly by Christmas. It is a real AAA app and they are really going all out on it so thats why it is taking so long. They actually have a roadmap to have a Meta Quest app released in H12025, so even Meta Quest users will soon have the option to avoid the direct download. Having an employee to help with the editing, color correcting, audio mixing would be a god send. You are right about this. I am actually looking for someone right now. I wasnt comfortable enough with the support I was getting from the patreon to take this next step up until now. With the support continuing to grow I am ready to take this next risk. The people have spoken, they want more Slice of life VR. Its time I take it to the next level of risk to increase output.

Excited for you but I don't think the BMD Immersive camera is worth it for you, in my opinion. The rumor at IBC from the BMD team as that it could be in the $40-$50K range. But I don't really think your content is lacking quality at all. I think your existing pipeline and your knowledge of how to color correct really makes you a leader in this space. I don't know that going to 16K content is going to add all that much other than sharpness, when quality isn't stopping anyone from joining your channel. When I look at the Explore POV app and its content, which they're upscaling to 16K, it's nice, but it's not radically better than what you have. Your content is unique because it's engaging, interesting, and curated in a way that makes us excited for your next video that explores a unique locale or event. If it were me, I'd invest a sum in finding a better way of delivering your content to users and growing your content. Downloading your videos from Google Drive is a frustrating experience, having to deal with them being chunked into parts, and getting them to my Vision Pro, and watching on Moon Player often makes me not even bother for a while to watch the newest stuff. You should get that app going so it's delivered via streaming, working natively in MV-HEVC so it's being hardware decoded on device, and invest in training a color specialist/editor who can edit, color correct, and mix your work so you can focus on creating more content faster. Totally my opinion and that camera looks very amazing lol (plus a good tax benefit for you if you're in the US and do this as a business or LLC) but I think your work is awesome but as a long-time viewer and supporter I just wonder if 16K content is going to be a catalyst for more growth, you know?
