(Spoilers) Notes on the game stats

Ariane in Paradise has a scoring system that is a little shrouded in mystery. If you really want to play the game in hard mode, you can turn off "Show Stats" in the preferences.
But if you are playing with stats on, you might want to know what they mean and how they work. It actually varies from day to day, but since I have only released day 1 content, I'll stick with that.
There are two main numerical stats: Charm and Sexy. You score these with your responses. Charm generally means Ariane likes what you are saying, Sexy generally means Ariane is a little turned on by what you are saying.
For example, early in the game, Ariane says, "Well, thank you. You like the breast stroke?". If you respond "I see what you did there", meaning you liked her joke, you score two charm points. If instead you respond "If you ever need help with your breast stroke let me know.", you get five sexy points. When you get sexy points, you often lose opportunity for charm points and vice versa.
Internally, you have to reach 30 charm points to get past the swimming pool scene, and 70 points to get to day 2. To make the math easier I display it in percentage. So if you reach 30 points at the swimming pool, it shows 100%.
Once past the pool scene your next goal is 70 charm points, this is why the charm percentage drops from 100% to 42% when you are changing clothes.
Sexy points don't do much to advance the game in day one (they do more in day 2, but I'll get to that later), but they do open up sexier scenes in day 1. If your sexy points are high enough, you can talk Ariane into sunbathing nude during the pool scene, for example.
Internally, you need 50 sexy points at the end of day 2, so the percentage is based on that, because that is the only sexy goal that matters, the percentage never adjusts like Charm does.
But these stats are not the only objective. You also have to learn stuff about Ariane. If you don't learn at least one thing about Ariane at the end of the pool scene, the game ends there even if you reached 100% on charm. If you don't learn 4 different things about Ariane by the end of the day, there is no day 2 no matter how high charm and sexy are. When you learn something about Ariane, these show up as "Ariane is" or "Ariane likes" descriptions in the stats, so you need all 4 before the end of the day.
Stats also keep track of the decisions you make about yourself. Are you rich or middle class? Are into public nudity or not? The game is balanced in such a way that these choices do not affect the game difficulty or outcome, but they may affect the plot or the future choices available.
The stat format changes on day 2. I'll explain those when we get there.

Yes, my plan is an update a month for at least the first four months. Then it will depend on how far along I am.

2019-06-29 17:48:52 +0000 UTCThis was a fascinating read. I'm fairly stunned at how intricate the system is - I suppose it has to be with all the conversation options and various storyline choices, but it never occurred to me that there was this much involved in it. Thanks for peeling back the curtain. I may not have understood all of it, but I'm glad to know something about how you're constructing the gameplay.
