Finishing this episode with Toranaga's son dying in such a stupid way, for sure we can have the impression that what he did was useless and such a bad idea. But, from the kid's perspective, it's an honorable death : he was sure they would all die, he even asked his father "are we gonna die like that or with at least blood on our swords ?". So, for him, he died trying, fighting, and it's enough. Even if I'm pretty sure Toranaga has in fact a plan in mind and his son could have survived.

At first, I didn't imagine it but when that courtesan noticed that Toranaga came here with a weak army, in front of a brother who loves to humiliate him… For sure Ishido knew their relationship was not good and offered his brother the place of Regent he always dreamt of, meaning Toranaga knew it as well. For me, the guy plans something like a Trojan's horse situation, to enter Osaka in a peaceful way and do something from the inside.
