Update 7th Aug '22
Added 2022-08-07 22:28:52 +0000 UTCThere wasn't really an update post last weekend as I was busy getting v0.033 of HoHH out. There were some problems there with uploading raw .html files. I'm hoping I've resolved this (temporarily) by making it available as a .zip file. If you're still having problems, shout up and I'll see what I can do. I'm still looking into more permanent fixes, but that took a back seat as...
Unfortunately, the Amazon problems with republishing my ebooks are ongoing. If I thought that would end once I put "A Succubus for Valentine's Day" out, I was sorely mistaken. The 3rd book, "A Succubus for Halloween" also ran into problems. This was a little stranger. Based on the correspondence, I think the publishing rights were pretty much verified early on, but whoever did it forgot to carry out the next step of actually taking the book out of "in review" so it could go live as a pre-order. This wasted a lot of time in the week as I tried to get hold of someone vaguely competent at Amazon KDP. Surreally, I had about 4 emails tell me "congratulations, your book passed review" on Friday and over the weekend, while the book was still stuck. Thankfully, as of a couple of hours ago, it finally reached someone on Amazon KDP's team that did know what to do, and the ebook is currently available for pre-order.
Based on my dealings with Amazon KDP, they don't seem to have a particularly well-trained or competent content review team. This means the same problems are probably going to keep occurring with the 3 other short story collections I need to republish. Unfortunately, this means this is likely going to keep being a pain in the ass and a distraction until I finally get all the ebooks back out again.
On a more positive note, I have finished all the manuscript prep. There's just the cover for "A Succubus for Saint Patrick's Day" to finish off, but everything else is pretty much ready to go.
Thankfully, this isn't just going to be a moan about my dealings with Amazon KDP. Typing up the Huntress 2 scenario has been a little slow, almost like pulling teeth on some of the days, but I've kept at it, and now it's typed up (just over 7K words). There were some complexity issues that slowed things down, mainly because I was a little too open-ended on the various routes to Bad Ends rather than standardising some text fragments to make my life easier. There are two sexy 'hounds' for the player to deal with, which did make managing the complexity a little tricky. I'll have to bear this in mind when I come to writing Huntress 3 (she has 3 sexy playmates for the player).
I don't think Dodgeball Arachne is as fiddly, so I'll be aiming to get that interim v0.034 release out as soon as possible. Hopefully by the end of next week if all goes well.
Talking of fiddly scenarios. I wrote a good chunk of Succuba's scenario this week. She's done apart from a Bad End scene where the player runs out of semen. Succuba was the winner of the popularity poll for the old placeholder harlot names, so it's good to finally get her written. Her scenario is quite a complex one. She has a game function as a semen-to-coin converter. Overall, she has 10 different sex acts she can do with the player. This is obviously a lot, so to keep her manageable I've kept them short and sweet. It will be referenced in the House as her being a jack-of-all-trades-and-master-of-none (she's a little too efficient at getting men off).
I did originally plan for her to be part of the generic succubus faction, but given she has a role as a more generic 'game piece' I'll probably make her factionless.
A mixed week with the Amazon problems, but I was able to get a decent chunk of work on HoHH done.
Thanks for your ongoing support.
