So, usually I don't really talk about this part, but its not actually a secret either. Don't mind the typos pls. :) First, lets put some context on this. Of my 522 patrons, 214 are still on the old 1$ membership. Most of the others are on 2$, with a small minority on the 3, 5, and 10$ ones. That said- I am grateful to all of you! Now, of the money I get per patron, roughly 25 cents goes to the payment provider (read, creditcard companies) - another bit, (5% because I'm a founder) goes to Patreon itself. This is why the 1$ membership is so rough, as of the 1$ I get only 70% before taxes. So, on average I get roughly 800$ to 900$ a month, over which I still need to pay taxes. This has mostly stabilized over the last year, even dropping slightly as less new readers come from RoyalRoad. As a small side ramble. This is the reason I've also decided to join the publisher Mango, and let them put it out on things like Kindle Unlimited even if it requires me to remove those chapters from other places. To answer your question. No. I don't make minimum wage, at least not what is counted as minimum wage in my own country. I'm getting about 5 or 6$ an hour, which in euros is roughly 4.5. Minimum in my country right now (according to the internet) is 14.17 euro. Now, I could make more if I would change it so the chapters people get to read ahead are locked to my patreon tiers. This is what most content creators do. The problem I have with this is that a lot of people read my story from countries where 2$ on something like an online story i a lot. I... feel that's just not fair. And because I still have my dayjob, do this as a hobby and all that, I have the ability to keep it at this price. I just hope that those who can, will pay a bit more, but if not, that's alright. It's my choice to provide my story as I do. All this said, if my day job ever stops for whatever reason, and I need the money, things might change. Food for my family will always be number one, over any altruistic tendencies I might have. But for now, this is how it is. Thanks for the question, I don't really talk about this a lot. Was fun to put it into words for once.

just because im wird ((522*2)/12)/20 -> you currently have 522 paid members at ~2$ min and release 12 chapters a month, are you making minimum wage? becus at 20$/hr that gives you ~4hr per chapter to wright, edit, post

Which is fair they happen but having a cliffhanger happen on a scene I've been waiting for just as I catch up is frustrating.

Neal Mayne

Hi Neal, which story are you reading? EDIT: n/m saw the hearts on Irwin's :) Yeah, I don't think I do many cliffhangers, but sometimes it just happens.

Carrarn

Really I finally catch up on this cliffhanger.

Neal Mayne

Thanks

Hey James! No exact date, but I am editing book two now. I have have planned a week off to speed that up. As soon as I get a better idea on the time Ill post about it here. Audiobook is unclear. It depends on how well book one does these first few months. Will keep you all informed about that!

Carrarn

Hey a couple of quick questions. Any word on when card smith book 2 is coming? Any chance Card Smith is coming out in audio book? If it’s not being worked on in audio yet may I suggest Jeff Hayes from Sound Booth Theaters. He will really bring your characters to life.

James Parker

Cool - The properly edited, and expanded version of book one will be releasing on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited in a few weeks :)

Carrarn

Minglings seems like a interesting read I'll be checking that one out soon
