Dark Maiden Route - Night III Complete
Added 2025-07-11 22:31:08 +0000 UTCAs I alluded to on Tumblr, this went through a lot of rewrites. Sorry for the delay and I hope you enjoy. Despite the headaches of rewriting the passages, I did enjoy this scene a lot and I think it does a good job of pushing the MC into a sexual relationship that she enjoys but is also profoundly conflicted about. The guys aren't going to make this any easier for her, as now that they've had her, they'll expect her to satiate them whenever and wherever they please.
The intimacy is largely linear, though with some tailoring depending on your MC. Night IV will address how your MC reckons with the events of Night III and will solidify your dynamics with all three men.
I'm keeping this post brief as there is a big storm brewing outside and it sounds like the type that will knock a few power lines down. Likewise, I haven't done a few quality of life coding things on the update, such as coding the known Wyransith to toggle to English. I'll get that set up later tonight (assuming I have power), but I didn't want to sit on the release any longer. I will try to get the Wyransith translations out early tomorrow morning. I still have to go through and make a few corrections. I did update the credits, if you don't see yourself there just let me know! I won't be giving an ETA on the next update, I'm just going to write and resume my custom of posting snippets on Tumblr as I work. I find I work much faster when I haven't put a deadline on myself.
A reminder that DMR isn't a romantic storyline. There will be romance, but it will come after a fair bit of brutish, self-serving behavior on the part of the men. If that isn't your jam, please steer clear.

I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful update and impressive writing, tbh I HAD to take a moment to digest Night III because it's so insidious and manipulative to the point I WAS agreeing with MC and deluding myself into believing this was 100% consensual. Like these guys have gone at it tearing down MC's walls and personal space in such a short and intense amount of time like you have everything there, power imbalance, guilt tripping (mc feeling like she owes them and maybe it wouldn't be so bad if she gave in a bit), isolation, etc Just... Wow. Hats off for pulling this off and making it smooth as butter, it felt so natural to end up like this... Oooof Edit. MC really did Not stand a chance against S/V joining efforts to set this entire encounter up (purposefully letting the fireplace die for example)

I think to me it felt like the sex scene was written with a more...happily submissive MC in mind? I am playing her as much of a hissy uncooperative cat as Mortish would allow, so it did throw me off, adding to the emotional disconnect I got pre-scene 🤔 I think the fact that as far as I can see only you and I commented about feeling disconnect with a scene sums up the topic of many discussions I have seen on Hosted Games forum and Reddit: when the author inserts thoughts into MC's mind it works out beautifully if the opinions coincide and causes dissonance when they don't 😅 Funny thing is that I know almost dead certain that you and I are playing different versions of the MC, too 🤭

I waited until Night III was finished before playing, so I had a bit more to catch up on. I have to compliment you on the dynamics between female characters that we've been able to glimpse so far: the apparent bond between Anja and Shaela, the enmity between Naditha and Anja, the bullying that MC faces from Naditha and the relationship between Anja and MC. It's also a bit sweet that Nythara (or whoever wants MC to see these memories) wants her to know how beautiful her original self would've been if she hadn't been burned. All of these moments speak of long and interesting histories. And it's nice to see these scenes instead of having them recounted. Makes me wonder, though: will DMR MC ever get the opportunity to interact with another women in any meaningful way or are we only getting that in flashbacks? I also like that the Elodari faith seems less a unified monolith, with different sects and factions devoted to different tenets of the faith which may disagree and war with one another. Wyransith has the same subject order as Latin, which I've been dabbling in. It's been helpful in learning both, so thanks for that! 😊 "Your uncertainty fuels his predatory instincts." Who's uncertain? I would describe it more as "reluctance," lol. It was funny to have this notification pop up in the clothes scene because my first thought was "MC is uncertain about being able to dress herself?" Also funny because Serax's "predatory instincts" manifest here as being a brat and childishly throwing the clothes at her head. 😆 I liked that the latest dream sequence is more surreal and nightmarish than usual, with hints of an outside agent being at work. I like that MC's mind took measures to protect itself from fully seeing the boy's face or hearing his name. Seeing this incident, feeling the devastating disappointment and heartbreak of it, and beginning to suspect that the dream girl might just be her is a good way to lead into her first sexual encounter. I was relieved that the sex wasn't as dubcon-ny as I initially supposed it might be: I pondered if the guys were going to get MC blood drunk and initiate when she was too intoxicated to really resist. But then the sneak peek had them speaking of a blizzard and you made that post on tumblr about trying for consent as much as the situation would allow, so I thought maybe the increased cold would prompt the MC to seek warmth and then one thing would lead to another. In any case, the sex scene is well written (and occasionally stomach churning), but I feel it's too linear and limiting. As soon as Valdricht takes her by the wrist, it feels like MC is swept completely out of my hands and put on a rail, which is not ideal in an interactive medium. It feels like we're not allowed to be Veiled/Wild in this scene; I know MC is having a massive moment of weakness after basically reliving a traumatic moment and I know there is tailoring going on under the hood. Perhaps it's also done to contribute to both the MC and player feeling helpless in the face of a forced/inevitable destiny. But I think this scene could've provided opportunities to expand and explore the dynamic she's forging with the guys without derailing the sex that needs to happen. Like when my MC attempts to grab a pelt which Valdricht didn't allow and she meekly stops. It's like she's possessed by the spirit of Bound/Tamed MC here. MC's first experience with sexual intimacy is a big deal and so I feel that the previous dynamic choices (sometimes made in much more mundane circumstances) shouldn't be the end-all, be-all of how MC behaves here. Perhaps we can have a choice to have MC's displeasure/distress at being denied this harmless and momentary comfort clear on her face or with a sound of protest opposite to a choice to immediately acquiesce -- to which Valdricht might reply with a stony glare or uncaring grin before he keeps going. It wouldn't alter the trajectory or outcome of the scene, but it might allow for some slight player impact and dynamic shift so that this scene doesn't make me feel like I'm reading a scene with a pre-set MC in a static novel. And after all of that casual dehumanization, blatant disregard, and unnecessary sadism, the guys suddenly switching to gentle touches and kisses like MC is something precious that they care about made my skin crawl. MC won't know any better because she's too ignorant about sex to know that it didn't have to be this way and the men just didn't care enough about her to bother to do otherwise, but the horror and alienation of it all is certainly felt by me. (Which is not an indictment -- an intentionally dark story is working as intended). Anyway, I hope that the storm wasn't problematic and that you're all safe. 🫶🏻

Tho, like the older MC I was out there screaming at the baby one to TURN BACK ASAP. Also laughed hard at MC berating past herself for skipping the lessons 😂 That was totally me scolding me for ditching Italian lessons back at uni when I suddenly had to interpret for a bunch of Italians. - Question about Kerax: is he voluntarily mute or mute due to the circumstances of his life\birth? Also I continue to stare longingly into the distance at the thought of that Kerax-only AU route 😌 - Just like Sunday has said, I am very amused by the fact that Val has dub-conned not one, but TWO people. I also want to slap him with a slipper, but that, tbh, might have to do more with the next point? Now the only bone I had to pick: - Okay, this one I leave to your writer discretion, and I want you to know that I am not aiming to ummm... be mean? and that I write it knowing that I am somewhat an outlier among the audience. But, tbh, the moment when MC was feeling jealous of Serax Sparta kicked me out of the immersion; as in, hard enough that I didn't get back into it till the very end of the scene. Because, since MC is sort of Serax's body mate, shouldn't she find him equally hot and be sort of torn between who she wants to be with in this scenario? Like either be equally jealous of Val or very confused because why is it pissing her off that the two of them are getting it on? To me the moment she started to describe how Serax is too this and too that (tho I do suppose it's out of jealousy, but it just felt in the moment like he is less attractive to her, so How Dare He Exist?), was what broke the immersion. Because to me Serax is more my type than Val appearance-wise: I love me a sensual-looking man, and she goes on talking down the things I personally LIKE in my partners, regardless of gender. If this was a 3rd person narrative, I would have had zero problem with it, since it'd be like 'yeah, CHARNAME is more into Val (whom she has described as some sort of a perfect specimen). Eh, different strokes for different folks', but since we are in the 2nd person narrative, the game tells me *you feel this way*, and I immediately go 'excuse moi, but I don't?' I remember that you've mentioned that DMR will be more linear, so I assume it's one of this infixable linearities but maybe smth to keep in mind for Classic? (Sorry it got rambly 😅) - The last passage tho... Made me feel very soft, no notes, I loved it (idk how you implied it's not romantic, because to me it IS!!!) - Also: poor MC's nethers 😭Good luck sitting tommorow, princess 😓🤭
