DECEMBER ROADMAP & #LETSDRAWMONSTERS Prompt!

CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST UPON US! RUN! RUUUUUUUN!!!!

Okay, wait. Before we start the panic and madness of the Holidays, let's take a breath and do some nice, relaxing drawing.

To help, #LETSDRAWMONSTERS starts in 1 hour!

The Prompt:

The Abominable Snow Serpent:

I saw this creature once in my travels, while hiking along a glacier. The glaciers have melted back dramatically in recent centuries, and as they've gone, they have left things behind, uncovered. Things which were perhaps meant to remain locked away within their icy catacombs. The creature I saw was giant, The length of 3 city buses at least, and though a snake in shape and form, it was unlike any other snake I had ever seen before. It was had wooly fur covering its body, like that of a mountain goat. It was light in color, and had great horns atop its head. Though it startled us, it had little regard for me or my companions, and slid quietly away into some mysterious dark crevice in one long, smooth glide. Returning from the hike, I stopped by a ranger's station to report the siting. The elderly man smiled kindly, clearly not believing me. But before I left, he showed me an old book which contained photos taken of ancient cave paintings from the region.  One photo in particular showed men with spears and stones around a cave with a giant coiled creature within it. To my knowledge, there is no other known record of the Abominable Snow Serpent other than this depiction upon a cave wall. Curiously, in the photos, I found repeated within them, a small figure playing a horn. Perhaps this instrument was some means of calming the giant beast? Or perhaps this early society regarded it was some ancient deity which they hoped would bless their annual hunt. When I saw the creature, it didn't look as threatening as it did in the painting. It looked comparatively small and weak, and it had fled quickly through a narrow crevice back into the heart it's diminished glacier. Though I was initially terrified, as I think back on that encounter, it seemed somehow sad to me, not the menacing figure I had seen on those cave wall paintings, where it once held entire civilizations in fear of it; but some ancient and lonely thing, the last of its kind.

This month, your challenge is to design the Abominable Snow Serpent the way you see it! The stream starts in 1 hour, 10AM EST on Twitch at:  https://twitch.tv/justingerardillustration  We will be sharing everyone's submissions on Instagram and the Discord at the end of the stream!

So what else is happening here in December?
