Today I am happy to share with you the final artwork from our journey into the world of Dark Souls! The image was commissioned by VaatiVidya and is available as a print from Displate. As with all of my work, I began with several sketches to explore the scene and work out the composition for the image. I primarily do this traditionally, in ink, before scanning it all into the computer and doing a value comp to nail down the lighting and shadows.

Once I had a solid understanding of my composition, I transferred the drawing down to a clean sheet of smooth Bristol paper and executed a tight drawing, using my trusty Kimberly's 2H and Staedtler 925 pencils.

For this one, I also did a color comp, as we weren't really sure what time of day and mood would best fit the scene:

I hope you enjoy this one! It was an absolute pleasure to work on and get to wander around for a time in the world of Dark Souls. Thanks to everyone who came to hang out while we painted this one on stream. It was a lot of fun, even if the machine guns didn't make it into the final painting.
