Elfin Sharpshooter Bonus Drawing

As I mentioned last month, I am currently doing a line-up of 12 character designs for a game called Fanstratics, from the makers of the original Heroes of Might and Magic game.  Most of these will be classic fantasy archetypes. The game is still in early development, so it will be a while before there is any launch or alpha. As development continues, I will be designing and sharing one of the core characters from the game with you each month.

This month!: The Elfin Sharpshooter.

The process follows my usual route of starting with a tiny ink gesture (only a square inch in size) and moving from there to a clean line design in ink or digital, (usually at around 4 inches in size) and finally a tight drawing in pencil, (usually around 8 inches in size.)

Next month... the character is going to be a very Halloween themed one.... :)

Thank you! I don't have a specific video one yet - but I will be uploading a Twitch VOD showing this exact process soon, and will be making it available permanently here soon.

Very cool!! I am wondering if you had video about this process from sketches to fished.

I think that average of $500 sounds right for a monochrome, especially if it has a lot of art direction and potential reworks. For projects with low art direction and no reworks (like: I want an orc with an axe) it might be way less though. For me it is mostly about how long it takes me to do the whole project (from emails, to reading, to actual work, to invoicing, etc) and then the other considerations, like what medium, what size, can I resell the original, is it NDA etc., Also, with a client that is asking for dozens or even hundreds of designs the rate will likely go lower too since I can often do things in batches. I think my average is around $350 or so these past few years. And then color is somewhere between $750 and $1250 depending on the budget, complexity, and volume.

Very cool!! What's your piece rate for a tight pencil drawing like this? And colored? (Not asking you to disclose what Fanstratics is paying, but say like 'an average'...) It seems like there's been a big uptick in the number of artists offering personalized D&D characters on IG or DeviantArt for $100. That has to be driving the perception of value down, right? I've only had a few RPG or mini-fig clients, and I've been able to get ~$400 - $600 for B&W drawings. Does that seem on par?
