Over-Cupped!

...or perhaps that should be Under-Cupped and Over-Boobed? Either way, that is one helluva wardrobe malfunction!

I always imagine within the BrasByDesign Universe that there would be some sort of cheap, late night, trash TV show called 'When Huge Bras Fail' or 'World's Deadliest Bra Failures'. It would feature candid clips (with permission, of course) from fitting rooms around the world, and phone-footage, or even video-camera footage of some serious size bras giving way, often in quite dramatic or perhaps comical form. I'm pretty sure I'd tune in every week!

That said, bras are pretty damn tough! As far as garments go, they are generally well engineered, and can take a surprising amount of overloading, at least in the short term. However, even the most sturdy bra can only hold on for so long. If the wearer happens to be steadily growing, for example, perhaps at a rate she actually finds hard to percieve at her current size, she may find herself inadvertently pushing her bra a little more each day until, finally - PING - the whole garment fails in dramatic fashion!

Don't get me wrong, either, it would be dramatic with breasts of this size and weight! As the bra fastener fails, the sheer mass and momentum of such huge bosoms could easily pull a girl to the ground! There's also the slight issue of getting back on ones feet, too...

On a final note, I just wanted to highlight another feature of the plus-size bra that I adore, and this sketch illustrates it well, I think. That is that most plus-cup bras* are essentially a flat, two-dimensional construction - akin to a 'net' when not being worn. However, rather cleverly, the bra then becomes a supportive, three-dimensional construction as it contains the breasts and wraps around the body. I find that kind of fascinating; it is the human body that gives the garment a majority of its shape, yet the bra often dictates the final form through the construction of the cups, panelling, fitment, etc.

Anyway, somebody go fetch a hoist and a seamstress, stat!

* I'm obviously excluding any moulded cup/t-shirt bras from this, but they rarely go beyond a UK G or GG-cup at best. Beyond this point, most bras are constructed using an underwire and fabric cups, or are non-wired with full fabric construction.
